-On new years eve around midnight, thousands of Red Wing Blackbirds fell dead from thy sky in Arkansas.  Reports indicate they died of impact "in the air."
-Either that day or the day after, 100,000 dead fish were found on the shore of a river 100 miles away.
-Now today, a few hundred more birds have fallen from the sky in Louisiana.

If you have not read or seen this news, its because its barely showing up on the TV "news" channels.  Maybe because there are much more important things going on right now like: The Jersey Shore's "Snooky" just put out a book, Brett Favre got freaky with his masseuse, and the kid from "Home Alone" broke up with his girlfriend.  I've seen a dozen "news shows" just laugh this off.  How messed up is that?

So what's up with these birds?

Maybe it's like the seven year cycle that lemmings and other animals go through.  Sort of self purge of the species...but I suppose we all see things a bit differently.  If it is the end we'd never know about until it's done.  Given the proximity to ground zero of last summers oil spill may answer the question.  Since we've never had an oil spill that massive before who's to say what species absorbed the final cost for the toxins released.

Another, and to me far more worrisome,is that the biggest fish in "my" pond died.I do not know what species they WERE,but they were about 2 ft long.Lucky for me the prevailing wind took the odor away. This happened last fall.Probly not related, but still........Some think the fireworks from New Years killed 'em.Got a bridge to sell ya.This actually happens from time to time,it was noted.I do remember hearing something like this before, few years back. What ever it was,I am sure we are to blame for it.The fish thing may come to lite as there is probly something in the water.I hope the end don't come before I get to ride Jolly again.I saw somewhere that a religeous group is fortelling the end in May,I thinkit was. That'll be ok as I will start seeing occasional riding days in March.

Autopsy said probably a lightning strike killed the birds, the fish were only one species, according to Arkansas game and fish it happens on occasion. no chemicals found in either case.  I live in Arkansas and have seen bird kills like this before, there was one about two years ago.

I vote for the "End of Days" theory. It would sell the most papers. Broadcast news would never cover it unless they had footage of the bodies dropping like flies...You done suppose that's where the phrase came from ,do you/

yes i  saw something about that lasy week....on the bird thing I'm thinking a logical reason for their demise vice conspiracy....I'm sure they are being tested for bilological testing..that would cause sudden death of a group of birds in a such a a manner and small geographical locale.....i defer to the experts on the final conclusion....ground still shaking in ark.....

Wait a Minute, wasn't all this on r80rt's Birthday? You been playing with that triple A gun you got, again? Making more of them home made fishing hand grenades? Huh? ...."Birds falling from the sky",...." ground shaking", ......." fish die  off"....aaa--huh.  That was some party down there. ::)

I recall a similar "Bird Kill" in Middle Tennessee about ten years ago. In Murfreesboro, we are overrun with starlings and red wing blackbirds every winter. One year the city had the bright idea to use the Mosquito spraying equipment to mist the bird roosts with a mild detergent solution just before a rain on a frosty evening. The detergent and rain rinsed the protective oils from the bird's feathers. subsequently the birds died of hypothermia.  All of the carcases were easier to clean up than was all of the bird shit.

ok...   how many of you have heard of "Fracking"?
(don't say it...)
it is the process of injecting at very high pressures some sort of secret
formula of solvents or sum'thn into the shale deep below to loosen the oil
so that it can be pumped out, shale oil. The process is kind of new and not
very well regulated...   might cut into the profits!  There have been problems
in Louisiana and Texas where methane has been released into the aquifer
during the process; poisoning water supplies and also causing minor
earth quakes...   yes they have started the shale oil process in the Guy area...
oh yea; as far as the Fracking Fluid; the government doesn't know what they
are injecting into the ground. my way of thinking is that it's gotta be some kind of
solvents or maybe even an acid of some kind...   seems that Chaney got them
them an exemption from the EPA for the process...
do some research on shale oil and fracking...

Ha, no telling what kind of crap is pumped down the hole, depends a lot on what formation you are in.  That was done after we were gone, we drilled the holes and moved off, the fracking  crews came in later.

Maybe the Red Winged Black birds committed mass suicide in anticipation of today's swearing in of the Republican Congress.
