Hello all, I've been considering customizing my 1966 Interceptor as a cafe racer. It seems that the easiest approach to this would be to purchase parts from the cafe kits offered for modern bullets and adapt them to fit.

Has anyone got any experience with this? Can anyone post detailed pictures of the  aluminum fuel tank, showing the front and rear mounting points?
Any suggestions or ideas?

I'd like to get this bike ready for the Oregon Vintage Motorcyclists show in May, 2011, which is going to have Royal Enfield as the Featured Marque ( Click here for OVM website. ).
I hope to get both my Enfield Twins entered.

Here's a picture of the Interceptor's most recent incarnation:

Here's my other Enfield Twin, which has the motor from my Interceptor installed in it currently.

I've got a 1 3/4 gallon aluminum tank on my Bullet and just got through measuring it to fit one on my latest 700cc Apache frame. It should bolt right on the front and uses a large oring in the back to fasten it to the motor mount -old tank bolt. They send you an oring with it but that lasts about a week. I use a Yahama outboard water pump base oring.Been on there about five years now. This may be how they mount all the aluminum tanks.   ERC

Nice one Eric. I'm just hoping to get mine thrown together.

I have two bikes to bring to a presentable state by May 20th 2011.  Proper restoration may or may not happen later.

I'm a charter member of the procrastinator's club. Shoulda been thinking about this three years ago.

I think you'll get a win with those two bikes just the way they are.   ERC

If that were the case, I agree. Unfortunately, the engine from the Interceptor is installed in the Tomahawk frame, and several other parts as well.

The interceptor is "up on blocks" currently. I'll be tearing both bikes down, then reassembling them with their proper parts and as much clean up work as I can get away with using no money.

The 500 twin engine has bad main bearings, but since I'll be trailering both bikes to the show, it doesn't matter if it runs or not.
