ok , an update with info
re had 5 factories (we are told )
royal enfield had 5 factories running during WW2 , and after
No.l Factory.........The head Enfield Works at Redditch.
No.2 Factory..........Westwood in Wiltshire, situated ninety feet below ground.
No.3 Factory......at Edinburgh.
No.4 Factory..........Feckenham, a few miles from Redditch.
No. 5 Factory..........Adjacent to the main Enfield Works".
this info is slightly incorect , there were 6
the 6th was bradford upon avon , very close to factory No 3 (the underground one!)
right No 3 , this was a mixture of old caves that were secure from bombing during WW2 , at at one stage the crown jewels were kept there!
during and after the war , this factory was used by enfield for munitions building , but here is a twist!
when the factory at reddich shut down , production of the interceptwer went to bradford upon avon , however , as enfield were winding down , ir, going bust , the B O A factory was closed down (some say flooding) , for the final 3 yrs the interceptor was indeed built underground
