I know this is way off topic but can anyone shed some light on what make & model this car is. We have been arguing about it for a few years now & no one  has given us an answer.

It's either a very large car or a very small man !!!!

Pub debates are very much on topic and belong here in Campfire Talk.

Regrets, no idea about the car.

My GUESS - and it is just a guess because of the angle of the pic, etc - is that it may be a custom bodied Deusenburg or Packard because of its sheer size. Pretty awesome "sports" car, though ....  ;)
Spare the pig iron - spoil the part!

May be European, by the way the wheels are spoked. Rolls or Bently?

It does have that Horse Shoe shaped grill, could be a Bug.

The grill looks Bugatti, but it's a really big car and I can't recall any Bugs that have spare tires mounted forward or "bumpers" like that.

Call me crazy, but I think that is an Oldsmobile.

So maybe The man is a U.S half pint? And the car is small? ;)

Based on the size of the car and the octagonal design of the wheel hubs, I would say Duesenberg, but the hood ornament doesn't match the winged design of that brand.

It doesn't seem to have the badge in the arch of the grill like most Bugattis do.

Any idea where the Pine Beach Hotel is located? That could be a clue. Through Google I'm finding them everywhere from Turkey, to Australia, to northern California.

Update: The badge and octagonal hub are consistent with a late-1920s Cadillac, but not so much the grille shape.

http://www.100megsfree4.com/cadillac/cad1920/cad27s.htm

I also looked at Buicks from the period but they seem to have a very different grille design.

What can you tell us about the photo?
Was the photo taken in Australia? If so that would help in guessing.
I would assume most imports of the time would come from England and Europe.

Thank guys for your interest in helping me identify this beast, I was thinking Hudson or 1924 Crysler 6, because of the bumperbar, grill & the non-domed backs of the headloghts .... but.... ???
The Pine Beach Hotel is my local drinking hole here in sunny Queensland Australia, We are 45k from Rockhampton & on the coat level with the Tropic of Capricorm. Directly out from us is Great Keppel Island. And the fishing is excellent

WOW Blairy !  If that's what your catching in your Hot tub, I'd be nervous about swimming in your pool ! ::)
I think it might be a Duesenberg as well. That may also be a Motometer and not a hood ornament on the Grill. It was a thermometer to give radiator temp to the driver?
Here is a link to some Duesenbergs, scroll down to the bottom of the page. Sure looks damn close to me?

@GHG:

This is the best comparison (similarities) I have seen of the Blairy's car and another Duesenberg.  Up untill now, in all the cars seen so far something was not matching with Blairy's car.  You have found the one that satisfies grill, tyres, hubcaps (which were seen many times on Duesenberg) and the ornament on hood (that was questionable so far - was not seen like that on other Duesenberg or picture was not clear), the shape of engine - round hood etc. This is it, man.  Now go and have an American beer with a German name  ;).

PS - Blairy should send you some fresh fish and chips - Aussie style !

What a lovely shade of green that car is! - and a REAL (wooden!) set of clubs on the running board. Kissel, eh? Well the research is ON - This is how I found out about the Wills-St.Claire ..... A wonderful, low production car built by the fellow who penned the original design for the Ford Model A ..... Each was tested to 100mph and featured an innovative rotary valve six cylinder engine. It's all about the love of iron .....  ::)

Had not heard of "Kissel" cars.  Found a nice link, actually it is on Flickr.  The guy has over 8000 pictures of cars - rare cars, antique cars, orphan cars and more cars of so many brands, shapes, year models !  There was this Kissel with a seat outside the seating cabin -  a seat right in front of the rear mud guard, so you can get off slow moving car without having to open the door  ;D -

All this debate at my local pub has everyone fired up, now they are all trying to identify the owner, thanks again for all your input & I'll keep you posted on any developments on the owner. It could be interesting as this area is basically cattle country & coal mining & was large acerage holdings, rich landholders but not many of them.

I have no idea what kind of car this is, but I'm thinking the man is small and the car is large depending on how much one has had to drink while sitting in the pub.
