I know this is way off topic but can anyone shed some light on what make & model this car is. We have been arguing about it for a few years now & no one  has given us an answer.

It's either a very large car or a very small man !!!!

Pub debates are very much on topic and belong here in Campfire Talk.

Regrets, no idea about the car.

My GUESS - and it is just a guess because of the angle of the pic, etc - is that it may be a custom bodied Deusenburg or Packard because of its sheer size. Pretty awesome "sports" car, though ....  ;)
Spare the pig iron - spoil the part!

May be European, by the way the wheels are spoked. Rolls or Bently?

It does have that Horse Shoe shaped grill, could be a Bug.

The grill looks Bugatti, but it's a really big car and I can't recall any Bugs that have spare tires mounted forward or "bumpers" like that.

Call me crazy, but I think that is an Oldsmobile.

So maybe The man is a U.S half pint? And the car is small? ;)

Based on the size of the car and the octagonal design of the wheel hubs, I would say Duesenberg, but the hood ornament doesn't match the winged design of that brand.

It doesn't seem to have the badge in the arch of the grill like most Bugattis do.

Any idea where the Pine Beach Hotel is located? That could be a clue. Through Google I'm finding them everywhere from Turkey, to Australia, to northern California.

Update: The badge and octagonal hub are consistent with a late-1920s Cadillac, but not so much the grille shape.

I also looked at Buicks from the period but they seem to have a very different grille design.

I think you are right, it looks like a 1920's Oldsmobile

On the eighth day God created the C5, and it was better looking than anything on the planet.
