What I tried today was a bit sacrilegious and not anything to boost about. Although I did in the name of R&D but my bike did not exploded into fragments and everything appears normal.

As by bike is going to get a new head, barrel and crank tomorrow so I gave it a shot.

It all happened in second gear at the speed of 68mph and the fuel supply started backing up. Just the way RE had intended to put up a barrier at 5500Rpm.

So for anyone who thinks rev limit can not be touched on C5 then think again although at your own risk.

Sat Sri Akaal:

What is up with your bike getting new head, barrel, crank ?  What is wrong with the original parts ?

In a previous thread (link below), calculations had shown that in 2nd gear at about 44 mph, the bike will hit 5500 rpm - but your bike reached 68 mph in 2nd gear before rev limiter kicked in.  Any ideas why so much difference ?  Was it 68 mph or 68 kph (which is 43 mph) ?

I have a leaking intake valve and I am in no mood of getting anything repaired hence a new head with valves but using the present rocker arms and pushrods.

Some noise from crank so barrel is getting changed along with it.

Regarding the calculations, I have no clue to be honest. Looking at the figures posted in the link above, even if I am mistaken that I might be in third gear instead of 2nd gear but still I have taken 9mph more then the suggested figures to hit the limiter.

I have checked my speedo against the gps and It was out by .8km. On my speedo it was 120 and gps showed 119.2km/hr.

Are these calculated figures for a G5 or a C5?

Your speedometer displays Kilometers per hour -  68 kph, which is 43 mph.  Then it is OK.

The calculations were for C5.

No Singh Ji, I converted the figures for you guys. I hit 110kph which is 68mph.

@ScooterBob- I dont have a crash test dummy so cant ride it for 18miles LOL. What gear did you hit the limiter?

@SSR:

Then the calculated vs. actual speed when rev limiter kicks in are significantly different.  In that case, it may be possible to go faster than the max speed indicated in the manual  :D.

@Scooter Bob:

At what speed and in which gear did you hit rev limiter on your bike ?

Don't you think our C5 always amazes us with something unique and new facts when compared to the written figures :D My bike has done 87mph few times with a leaky valve so I am sure it can do better with a non leaky head.

EVERY gear .... Muah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!! ;D That little mill is SO overbuilt and quite conservatively limited that I really don't believe that you can pop it ..... ! It indicates around 90 or so when it "runs out".  ;)

@SSR

Yes, these new UCE bikes are amazing.  Your bike has already crossed the max speed of 130 kph (81 mph) listed on the RE Chennai's website !

Did you see this one, too ?

SSR - How many miles on your bike?  Factory defect?  Being repaired under warranty?

11.5K miles tillnow. It wasn't a company defect. Work is being carried on under goodwill. I am out of warranty officially.

@Singh Ji, now some true figures at what I hit the revlimiter.

After getting incouraged by @ScooterBob's post I tried doing the same in all the gears.

Hit the jackopt in 1,2,3 but by the time was trying in 4th gear I reached 125kph but no rev limiter till then but ran out of straight road so couldn't reach the rev limit in 4th or 5th gear.

1st gear rev limit reached at 50kph
2nd gear rev limit reached at 85kph
3rd gear rev limit reached at 110kph
4th till 125kph no rev limit but i felt it was about to hit the limiter..

@SSR:

Interesting what you found on rev limiter - that from 2nd gear onwards it does not kick in until the bike is approximately 9-11 mph faster than expected !  May be by the time ECU gets all the info and responds, the bike has accelerated beyond that speed.

But the good news is that it does come on - it works at its own ROYAL pace !

C500  1st gear 50 kph = 31 mph            theoretical = 29 mph
           2nd gear 85 kph = 53 mph           theoretical = 44 mph
           3rd gear 110 kph = 68 mph          theoretical = 59 mph

Good experiment  :).

Royal Enfield takes it own royal time to respond:)

Also discovered the slack in the gearbox and found out the slack to be more then a inch in first gear and a bit less in rest of the gears.

Managed to get the crank weight and its healthy 10.5kg.
