Apologies in advance for posting this in a variety of forums around the web, but I thought it was worthwhile. This is the only place I will post it here at the Forums. In the '50s, actor James Dean owned and rode a Royal Enfield. No one knows what happened to it, but an author has now discovered the serial number of the bike: J2/7484. It would be a 1951 Royal Enfield J2. Details on my blog:

Dave - I just sent this to my good buddy Jeff ..... He has been on a rip for the Enfield bikes these days .... Let's see if HE has the thing! He has unearthed three consecutive serial numbered Factory race bikes from about that era .... and found the cat that put 'em together and had a nice chat ....... He probably has a clue. I'll post if I hear anything good.

I've had it all along. Parked it right next to Jimmy Hoffa and forgot about it ;D

Normally I would take this with a grain of salt, but since the article states he blew his engine on the ride to N.Y, I believe it.

I just got word from Jeff - He doesn't have it - but IS aware of the intensifying search for the bike. I think HIS hat is in the ring as far as doing research and trying to land the "fish" first - but he just scored a Factory Big Head Racer from '58 - and Duhamel's Kawasaki 350cc road racer from '73 with ALL the hot-rod bits from THAT factory intact ... It's kind of funny - he was a bit taken aback that I asked about JD's Enfield .... I'm almost betting that he'll turn it up - or know who ends up with it ..... Gotta LOVE that guy!
