On the eighth day God created the C5, and it was better looking than anything on the planet.

Weather has been nice in Kansas so I haven't had much incentive to work in the garage yet. Tonight I pulled off most of the stuff on the timing side.

Thats the great thing about rebuilding engines.... they wait for you. I keep thinking i'll walk out into the garage and mine will be all pulled and apart but the night shift never does anything!

I can only afford to do the bottom end this year..... i guess i'll have sort of a smoldering briquette instead of a fireball until i can get the head done... but that's OK, it will be waiting for me :D

Tom Checks in the Mail! Looks like phase 1 (The Head) is done I ordered the cylinder and piston. I need to get off my butt and get the bottom end pulled apart. maybe I'll make some progress this weekend.

I finally got a chance to put a few additional miles on #004 last Sunday.

After I installed an AGM Sealed battery she started up 2nd kick! Took it easy few a few miles to get things circulating...me and the bike.....then rode it like I would a UJM....I had to keep backing off the throttle as everytiome I looked down at the GPS I was running 55 to 60 mph. No effort at all and I am a big guy!

Got north of Lake Altoona and had to turn around and hurry home...so on to I-75 south.

Was no problem to keep up with traffic which was running 65 to 70....when I got a clear spot I tucked down and went for it!

I got a few susprised looks and then I looked behind me and 3 sportbikes were tucked in behind...I let off and waved them by.....they all flashed grins and thumbs up as they passed...we were running 80...I think they were impressed by the ole girl! ;D

don nice report... today i started the fireball .I'st time in 4 months. the cylinder walls must have been dry because it seemed to have little compression . eventually after many kicks it started.  now it is ok ..the same thing happened to my 2000 RE a few times last year. when i did'n't run it enough. these bikes want to run often.

Yeah I had the zero compression thing happen also.Started on 2 kicks, ran ok.Kinda weird.Let it warm up and it would support my weight, business as usual.Got to be a stuck valve as it is zero compression.Could be the compression release,I suppose.

Hey Don,
Thanks for the ride report. Glad to hear you're lettin her rip. 75-80 is the sweet spot on mine and I've seen 90. More than that and I'm a little chickenshit but I know it's there. Gonna go one step leaner on the needle jet and the main as soon as it hits the 60's as per Chumma's recommendation. Maybe by then I'll have grown a pair. Your bike looks fab by the way and is that a little blush of straw I see on the pipe? Nice.

Hi Chuck,
That's the one-and-only stainless exhaust system that I prototyped, but couldn't get sufficient interest in it to make a small production run.
I needed to get about 10 people to do it, and I only got two people interested.
So, Don has it, because I couldn't make any others at a one-off cost and be anywhere near affordable.

That thing is a hand-built and hand-polished full-stainless exhaust, and it's a beauty.
Stainless tends to get a little straw color, but they don't blue.

Nice reports Chuck and Don.  Thanks!

Had mine out yesterday afternoon, and am still getting used to my "new 75mph sweet spot!  Bike was doing great and i now have about 2,200miles on it and have my Redline in the crankcase, so also getting used to giving it the guns.  The wind finally drove me home though after literally having to reach down repeatedly and pull  tumbleweeds off of my leg - they tend to stick to you like velcro.

On jetting with my Fireball, I've had the best success with settling into three jetting set-ups;
- One for 40deg to high 50's
 - 60 deg. to 75 deg.
- 75 to 95 deg.

Just switched to my 60deg and higher set-up and it snowed last night.  Springtime!
