  Sometimes the safe end of a pistol is more dangerous than the supposed business end.

  Wifey and I spent part of this morning shooting a couple of my C&R foreign pistols.  Big thumbs up on the recently acquired M57 Yugo Takarov pistol.

  Can't say the results were near as good with the 1921 vintage Astra 400.  Good thing I always wear safety glasses and ear plugs at the range.  Made it to round number four and the slide and bolt carrier decided to part ways..right into my face...yup chicks dig scars.

  Luckily wifey is in the nursing field and quickly got me home to doctor me up.  So how do like my new costume?  Chickies dig scars...


  P.S.-Anyone want to buy about 450 rounds of 9MM Largo ammo and spare parts for an Astra 400?

Hope your ok ,very unfortunate to happen. I had one of those Astra 400's,I wonder if the previous owner(s) of your gun always used 9mm largo ammo only. There are some people who have used other 9mm ammo in those guns, if yours was one it could have fatigued the metal causing the explosion.Just a thought and I wish you a speedy recovery.

  Kind of wondering the same thing.  I only shoot factory ammo (as scarce as it is) in something of its' vintage.  Slide fractured like it was pretty weak. 

  Damage looks worse than it is.  More of a low grade headache than anything.  I'll probably be fine, but wifey is keeping an eye on me for the present time.

  Guess alot of us were raised old school..chicks do dig scars.  Not a biggy, can add them to the present ones.  More the merrier.

  Guess I can add a new checkbox to my life checklist..slapped by pistol slide..the saga continues.

i had a 9 mm semi auto pocket gun...once..  till i took the top of my thumb knuckle off twice witinin 18 rounds..

lesson learned..

  Think we've all had our share of crap happen with firearms.  But the point is well taken..think mine is to stick with single action semi's and stay from double actions period.

  Thanks for all the support guys.  Better this morning.  Headache is even gone.  My Grandpa used to say less brain, no pain.  Guess I was truly lucky that it hit me in the head when it threw a scrap metal fit. .

  I rechecked a couple of my other antiques for problems last night..nothing else looming for now.  Once slapped, twice learned.
