If it's just the silencer you're changing it's usually the increased grin and action of your throttle hand that affect mileage ;)

My bike came with the Goldie exhaust, (not silencer  ;D ), as standard so it's done all its miles with one. It was and is absolutely fine and I wouldn't consider there was any minimum mileage required before fitting. Fuel consumption has been 80 at worst, 94 best and 85 average. The worst figure involved sustained 75-80mph cruising so I really wonder if there's any difference from the stock system. The performance boost is such that you can sustain 75-80mph cruising!

No problem at all. The pipe is a couple inches out from the nut. The original pipe was more of a nuisance to work around.
