I saw this on Craigslist.  Notice it is still registered in Florida.  If it's a 49 state bike only the current owner can bring it into the state an license it unless it has 7500 miles on it.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any Californian is going to be able to buy and license this bike easily.

What is a "49 state bike"?

Bikes have to pass CARB (California Air Resources Board) testing before they can be sold in California.  Bikes not authorized by CARB but authorized by Federal testing would be 49 state bikes.  According to my future RE dealer a non CARB approved bike can only be licensed in California if you move To California with it or it has 7500 miles on it.

So, In the future, will all RE's be CARB approved or will there be two versions;  One version that meets CARB and another version for everybody else?

Thanks

I think it depends on the costs of the mods.  When it comes to vehicle emissions, so go California so goes the rest of the country, eventually....

I'll bet in the near future you will see it across the board.  Look at the catalytic converters on bikes.  I never thought I would see that in my lifetime.
