I was picking up a new oil filter and o-rings yesterday.  For the filter assembly,  I've got the large o-ring for the spring loaded cover and two o-rings for the ends for the filter.

I have the newer cover with the bolt that holds the sprung plate assembly together.  There's also a small o-ring for the shaft of the cover that protrudes into the filter.  Do I need that small o-ring for the newer cover?  I don't remember it being there when I did the last oil change.

No need to take another trip back to the dealer then :)
