I must let you know I got the tach from jp cycles and it works great. It was easy to hook up. When I went for a ride, I found that around 60 70 the bike averaged between 4000rpms and 4500rpms. I think I may have been wrong about the whole 5000rpm not the redline. Once I have my next oil change I'll doo another speed test and check.

What front sprocket are you running? Stock? I'm running a 19T front and those figures sound rather high... If I recall off the top of my head I'm running 3700RPM at around 62 MPH.

hmm I'm running 19T as well. I'll have to double check the readings... I wrote the message a few days after riding so I may be mistaken.

I have been looking for a tacho the same size as the ammeter, so i can drill out where the ignition switch goes and put it there, must be 42mm to fit though. Most of the hole has been machined from underneath, factory just leaves that bit of metal on top of the casting to make the fancy bit to mount ignition switch. Have scoured the net.......best i can find is 52mm. Want to mount in casquette rather than outboard of the handlebars :)
Nothing is inexplicable.........only the unexplained......

I was looking at tachs for a longtime and I could never find one small enough to fit in the bike.

Anyway I went riding again today... The numbers are in they are 2700 rpm at 40mph 3000 rpm at 50 and 3900 at 70mph all taken while in 5th gear.

With the tach on my radon, it seems like I'm going 38mph at 3,300 RPM in 3rd gear, and the engine seems like it's going awful fast.  Around 2,400rpm at the same speed (38) in fourth gear, which the engine thinks is a bit low.  Sweet spot seems to be 2,700 RPM

that sounds about right... for me between 3000 and 3500 is the sweet spot. At 2700 I can feel the lug, so I tend to shift down to fourth gear.

UPDATE my front right turn signal fell off and was hanging by the wires yesterday! Awsome the factory bracket broke. Add it to the list.
