I am new to the Royal Enfield world and hope to own one in the next few weeks.  Test drove a 09 G5 last Saturday and really enjoyed the experience.

Question: What function does the rubber bits wedged between the fins perform and can they be removed?

If this question has been answered before, any links would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Could be wrong cause I've never had this issue but seen them on other bikes Seems on some bikes the fins will sing from vibration. Guess the rubber bits stop it. Other than vibration dampeners I couldn't imagine what they'd be for but then again nobody's ever accused me of being smart before.

They are called Damper Pad and their name suggest it all. I did not felt any change in noise or vibration levels when I had them off. Only positive I felt was the less overheating of the engine in bumper to bumper traffic in Indian summers.

I took them off my C5  as fast as I could, they are supposed to reduce engine noise, but I couldn't tell any difference without them,
On the eighth day God created the C5, and it was better looking than anything on the planet.

Mine are off with no difference, except for looks.
