May I please invite your attention to page 85 of the catalog.

The last line suggests there is an alloy barrel and high compression piston for the AVL, a blueprinted big bore kit. Does this accept an AVL head or the iron barrel head ? Also, how much does it cost ?

Br.1 Thump flip back two pages to Pg.83.
Part No. Z91485 gets the 535 kit for the AVL, piston/rings/ bored to match cylinder/gaskets/circlips, priced at 495 USD

I see that. But, the one on 85 has more bells and whistles: "Blueprinted", alloy (not aluminum), bore is better alligned... etc etc. My guess is that it will cost more too.

The AVL lump is good kit from the get go.
The AVL big bore kit shouldn't need the the extra machine work given to the other kit.

You could telephone parts Man Tim or Scooter Bob for details if you like, just a thought.

Parenthetically, the words "alloy"  and "aluminium" are interchangeable.

The 'alloy' is an aluminum alloy.

For those who have alloy barrels: Does you bike sound more like the original bullet. My electra does NOT sound like one. It just does not have the deep bass.

Three of my riding mates have AVL machines.
My Iron Barrel is much noisier mechanically speaking.

The Iron Barrels cams riding on fixed instead of adjustable spindles have more lash that along with the the old style rockers create a lot of racket contribute to the symphony.  ;)

I understand what you are saying: Valve clatter; as I am sure you understand what I am talking about: the thump. It is so radically different, and dare I say mellow, compared to the deep bass of the iron engines that I know of. I have not heard what the alloy barrel engines sound like, and would like to know if they sound anything like the cast iron engines. Phew !
