Can anyone confirm the date for the Isle of Vashon? I recall Interceptor Lou telling me it was this weekend.

Many thanks for this list. As a newbie forum member in Yakima, I was back and forth about buying a G5 and stumbled on this rich source of information from you dedicated RE owners to convince me. My last bike was a BSA back in the 1970's in the UK. For the last 23 years I've been flying bouncy little airplanes and gliders and riding bicycles too far but I really want to put some road time on a classic long stroke one lunger before I'm too old and feeble.

Thanks for the welcome and local rider IDs. I have registered on the forum but actually haven't yet purchased the bike. What's holding me back is seat height. I need another inch lower for flatfoot. Haven't found any threads on that topic and would be grateful if you could point me in the right direction for how to lower the seat (aside from riding with flat tires :)

If it's just an inch, some good riding boots with a heel could make up the difference if you haven't tried that already.

you can also let about 13 lbs of air out of each tire....

There are several seats available from our host that are one to three inches lower than stock. Your dealer should know about these or you can call me at Vince's Motorcycle Store 360-754-4900 for details, or call our host.
FWIW...In actual practice most people don't ride with both feet flat on the ground. If you can comfortable reach the ground with one foot and hold the bike up without strain, you are fine. Just a little bit of pre-planning your stops will enable you to safely plant your foot.
Often this concern arises when the rider wants to back up the bike or otherwise push it around. A more secure way to do this is to dismount and lean the seat into your hip. You can then use the full power of your legs to maneuver the bike.. There is no strain on your upper body because you only have to steer. It is more stable with the tripod formed by the wheels and your feet. If you do slip your feet slide away from the bike, You won't get caught under it and you are much less likely to bang your head.
I don't recommend riding with heels because heels can impede your ability to remove your foot from the peg if you need to move your foot fast.
With this, as with most other issues there are work-arounds. This forum is a good place to learn other ways that you can try to see what works for you.

I haven't been able to flat foot a bike in over 20 years! If I can get a solid foothold on the balls of my feet, I'm a happy camper! I've had several bikes that were toe tappers! I wasn't real fond of too many of those, but they were there. The Enfield was a balls bike. I liked it fine!

Thanks to all you folks for this wisdom. I looked at the NField site and found the Electra dual low seat which customer service says also fits the G5. I also see that Rich's Seats here in WA state will make a custom fit seat for $450 :-O. I guess I prefer the security of a flat foot stance, though. I rode my bicycle over 6,000 miles last year and can't flatfoot it but at age 71 I'm not sure I could manhandle 212 lbs if I started to lose the bike at a stoplight.

J-3 mod the bike however you like  ;)

Here are a couple links to videos on how to pick up a fallen motorcycle using leverage and technique instead of brute strength.

What is the best way to let people know of a possible group ride?
I'm in the Renton area and plan on riding around Rainier this year, two day ride around the Peninsula, and ride the Old Blewett Pass, this summer.  I usually ride alone and had some feedback of riders who would have joined in if notified.
There is not a location specific way to start a thread, any suggestion??
