I'm busy doing other people's Enfields.

One of these days, I will work on my own.

Today was cold again; very cold because of extra wind.
And yet I was still smiling. Such a great motorcycle.  ;D

Sunday I removed the Bench Seat from my 2010 G5 Deluxe, in preparation for installing real pretty LEATHER covered Lycette style Solo Seat, & Pillion Seats, I came by.
The G5's rear fender support bracket (I uncovered) had such butt ugly welds, I felt obligated to mold them in so they wouldn't be noticeable. After filing the worst of the welds even with other surfaces, I covered everything up & did my "mold-in" work using JB-Weld. All went well with the filling, filing & finish sanding, & I sprayed it the correct Black today. It should be dry when I finish here, & I hope to have it all together soon. My bench seat was very comfy- but looked pretty cheezy. These seats are just spectacular, & although maybe not as cushy, may help me touch the ground a little easier. Hope I get to try it out soon.
Best Wishes, Craig McClure

Much as I hate to make excuses, This job took longer than it should, I just finished this evening(Wednesday).  Not easy, putting the vintage Solo & Pillion seats on a G5, while still using my Rack, & rear Grab Bar. The seats themselves came with some steel adapter bits cobbled up by Hitchcock's blacksmith, to approximate the mounting holes on the G5 frame. Non traditional bike tools were required, Die Grinder, C-Clamps, pry-bar etc. My JB-WELD was slow to set in my cold work area, & after using a heat gun, still took all night for the first application of mold-in to set, on the ugly welds of the rear fender brace. Another day for the Paint to dry. The hardest part was getting bolts through several sandwiched layers of uncooperative sheet metal, due to Arthritis in old Fingers & ancient Shoulder Joints.  Anyway, it looks pretty good, & felt just fine sitting on it making vroom-vroom noises. I'll try & get Pix soon, but to cold to ride for awhile, so will do some cleaning & touch-up, while it's on the BIG RED LIFT.
Best Wishes, Craig McClure

Here are the Lycette style Solo & Pillion seats I put on my G5 Deluxe. I got them previously owned-sight unseen. Fortunately they came with Hardware for a G5. The appear to be the LEATHER COVERED, UK MADE, HITCHCOCKS SEATS. Ordinarily these would have been beyond my budget, but I got lucky. They were not easy to fit, but came out very nicely, & are comfortable enough for the riding I do. I do like the vintage look, & high quality of the seats, & am pretty keen on Leather goods.
Best Wishes, Craig McClure

Did the rider's seat end up being higher or lower than the original bench?

Nice looking leather :)

Hi Scotty, They are pretty close to being level without me on it. When I'm astride, it probably goes down a bit, I can feel the pillion nudge me comfortingly from behind, & slightly above the drivers seat. I imagine I could still slide back onto the pillion, if needed, coming into the finish line at the TT. ;-)

Hey Scotty, I think the solo may be about the same height as the bench, but can't be sure until its off the stand, taking my weight.

Replaced the stock chain with a tsubaki o-ring, and my dealer kindly replaced the upswept silencer that didn't even make it to 3000km before imploding with this Australian made custom number, the M16.
Never heard of it but it sounds pretty damn good!
Can anyone recommend a small heat shield?!
