I haven't ridden on K70s but I can scrape the foot pegs with the 705s and never lose any traction.

Scottie

do you run the Radial, or, the Bias ply 705's  ?

I believe I have a radial on the rear and bias on the front.

Rode my Boulevard to work yesterday and then on the way home it quit running due to what I think is a balky kickstand safety switch.  So, today, I decide to ride the RE to work for a 1/2 shift.  On the way home in the elevated HOV lane, it quits running.  I coast and then with a one leg pushing technique I get to the down ramp for the Metro park and ride.  Start checking it over.  Got fuel. Realize the lights and signals are not working with the key on.  Check the inline fuse from the battery.  It's blown.  No extras on board.  Walk to a service station and buy two 20a fuses.  Walk back and put one in.  Turn key, it blows instantly.  Move battery cables around and looks like nothing is in as bind.   Put the last fuse in and turn the key and it blows instantly.  Call the wife and she comes to get me.  We go home, get the truck, trailer and carry it home.  In the garage now, and I will begin to sort it out tomorrow.

You have a wire somewhere that has decided to cut thru the insulation and ground itself out.  Check all the areas that the wires run close to edges and areas prone to getting pinched.  I'm sure it will be an easy find once you look into it.

Hope so Scottie.  As you say, it should be an easy find  due to the fuse blows so quickly.  Certainly a dead short somewhere. Just riding along though for about 20 minutes and then nothing.  No bumps, jarring movements, just straight line riding.  I'll update when I locate the culprit.  Thanks,

there are only two fuses according to the schematic.  One for the lighting circuits, and, the other for engine management.

I'd start by pulling the fuel pump relay, then pull off the O2 sensor, followed by the coil.

oops .... just re-read your trauma ...  you have a lighting circuit problem.   pull the headlamp.

Thanks.  This fuse that is blowing is the inline fuse holder straight out of the battery box.

Checked the headlight area this morning and found a wire detached from the amp meter?  Not a standard blade type connector, but heavy wire with a push on metal connector that is cylinder like?  Pulled the amp meter out of the housing and plugged it back in.  While the headlight bucket is off, inspect everything there.  Lots of wire and connectors for such a simple vintage system.  Had no idea there was that much wire back there.  All looks good, took a few minutes to organize a little and separate where possible.  Put a new fuse in and turned the key on.  No blown fuse.  Started it up and rode the neighborhood.  Seems to be ok.  Thanks for the advice.

Oil changed.  So easy.  Pegs adjusted.  Just as easy.  Spark plug ... oh wait I never bought a new one.  Off to the parts store again.  Trip number two today.

OK new NGK plug in.  Quick 10 mile ride speaks volumes for the new plug.  Adjusting the pegs make shifting much easier with my size 14 feet.  Tomorrow I will adjust the rear brake.  Off to work.  Oh maybe I'll have the guys at the H.A. garage/club house fix my brakes.  They owe me a favor any how.

Told ya. The plug is the first thing everyone should change. Those stock Bosches are terrible. Even if you think you're not having any plug problems, $3 for an NGK BPR6ES will prove you wrong!

I know most people look at this thread. Please keep the owner of New Haven Powersports in your prayers. He owns the  local Enfield dealer here in Connecticut. He was pulled off a scooter he was test driving and beaten by a mob of 5-10 people. WFSB is the local news station. The complete story is on their site.

This link will take you to the Snopes story about the incident.

Seems to me if it was caused by another vehicle there would be some pieces of the car or scooter laying around.
