Total it, buy a $2000 Ninja 250 to hold you over, then sell it for the same $2000 when the CR gets here.

You can get any number of bikes in good running condition for $2-3k and sell them for the same or mor come summer.  And a handy guy like you could probably find a beater for around $1k and have it running smooth as silk within a week for next to nothing.

Not an entirely bad idea. I do kinda like those little Kwakkers!
I'll have to see what's out there. They aren't much for mileage though! You have to flog them pretty hard to go anywhere.

Bare - I do hate to think of you being without a bike... who is Jack gonna ride with?!?  I hope the insurance deal works out to your best advantage!

I'd offer to join you, Jack, but for you it would be like getting stuck babysitting the neighbor's little girl.  You'd spend your rides waiting - "where in the hell...??"

I'll second the 250 Ninja. Bought an 07 with 300 miles on it for $2100, put about 8000 miles on it and sold it a year and a half later for $1900 (to a 19 year old kid as his first bike, who worked for all of it, I was impressed!) Was still like new. I did an 1800 mile round trip loaded down w/tour bags on that thing up to the Indy MotoGP in 08. Motor spun over 10,000 rpm forever down the interstate. Really unbelievable motor. You can't kill 'em.  :)

Aww, shucks!

Don't tempt me!  I have a friend who has a place up in Arrow Bear, and a girlfriend down the hill in San Bernadino - not all that far, really, from your stomping grounds.  Of course, I'd only have to ride 3100 miles to get to him...

A little on the old style baby Ninja: http://www.subcompactculture.com/2012/10/quick-ride-2007-kawasaki-ninja-250.html?m=1

They gotta be getting cheaper.  There's the newer 250 and this year the 300.

Well, I did the deed today. I'm signing my baby over to the insurance company. They basically offered me a $900 buyback, but then I would have to screw with a Salvage title. So I decided to let it go and use what's left for a good down payment on a Cafe Racer. I will miss it!
