Found front Avon lives up to it's nickname .... but in reality, prob not the tyres fault.

Had the front let go at low speed.

So ended up with bent brake lever, bent right peg, dented the top of the tank, squashed headlight rim in part and front mudguard scuffed.

Rats.

Thanks malky.

Very much a 'what was that all about' moment. Wasn't much above walking speed as going downhill on a right curve. More battle scars.

To my mind, the Enfield has further cemented itself in the 'anti trade-in' stance it seems to have adopted lol.

Fixed a long lingering oil leak and in the process also ditched the E start.
Lightens things up a bit and frees one more switch to be used for something else.
No matter where you go, there, you are.

It hit 45 Degrees F and the roads were dry and clear, so I went for a short ride.  These bikes do run well with lots of cold air to draw from.  Nice to be back on the bike after four months...with only a couple of months to go before real riding weather is here.

Measured up to design a sump guard that will double as a "dolly" for my hydraulic lift. Now to look for some stainless plate.

On the UCE or on Timex?  The e-start on Timex was pretty lame anyway, so...

I changed the headlight bulb on my G5.
After 4 years, the low beam filament burned out so I had to ride home the other night using the high beam.

The bulb is for the 7 inch Lucas non-sealed beam sold to me by NfieldGear and they are unavailable from auto parts stores here in the US.

Now that I'm using my "spare" bulb, I called CMW (NfieldGear) to order another backup but they said they don't have any on hand which is kind of a bummer.
On the bright side, I got an e-mail from CMW saying this is the last day for their stock reduction sell out and lo and behold.  They were selling the 7 inch sealed beam headlight and rim at a super good price so I bought one of them.
Now, when my old fashioned bulb (yes, it looks like a old bulb with a large flange base on it) burns out I can replace my Lucas headlight with a sealed beam so buying spare bulbs won't be a problem.

I will miss my genuine "Lucas" headlight lens though.  Several people noticed it when they were looking at my G5 saying things like, "Oh my God!  That headlight was made by the Prince of Darkness in England.  I've heard they even come with a cartridge of electrical smoke in them so you can re-live true "old time" adventures first hand."

I have 55 60 w halogen bulbs for the Lucas headlight. They come from Emgo, your local dealer can get them if they want to go to the trouble.

I've got a few 12 volt 35/35 watt of the BPF (British Pre Focus) that you might be describing.

The important bit is ..... does the flange have a nip pointing out from the circumference, or, is it like mine and have "half a hole" keyway notched out of the flange?  they look like the attached pic.

These 35/35 watt units are none-too-bright (tungsten in vacuum, not Halogen) but they really look the part and have the correct color light (in my opinion)

I recently replaced my C5 small headlight with the seven inch which was on sale.  Rode home after the Superbowl in the dark and what a difference from the original.  Felt like daylight, with great illumination, rather than two fireflies making out in a plastic box.  A worthwhile investment especially for safety.

The 7"headlight of almost any kind is so much better than the ~5" US stock one.  The Halogen is great, lots of light and replacement bulbs at any auto store.

Gremlin:
My bulb looks just like the one in the photo you posted. (Ha!  Bet most of you folks never saw a headlight bulb that looks like that before?

They were called "Pre Focused" because just plugging them in automatically located the bulb in the right place and they were quite popular back in the 1940's for headlights that didn't use the "new" sealed beam type.

Prior to bulbs of this style a mechanic had to adjust the fore/aft location of the bulbs to get the lens to shine the light in the right direction.
I used to have a 1939 Motor's Manual that described how to do this on your Graham, Pierce Arrow or LaSalle.

The large sheet metal flange on this "Pre-Focused" bulb positions and times the light.)

The bulb I installed is a 40/50 watt bulb.  THAT should dazzle the kiddies.  :D

CMW as usual, already packed and shipped my order so I should be getting it in a day or so.
