I warmed up the engine before wheeling the Rumbler out of the garage and made sure to set her properly so she wouldn't lay down on me again while locking the door.  Then I rode her.  After my appointment I rode her again, talking the long way home.  Today we broke 300, getting clear up to 319 km on the odometer before I parked in front of the house.  Oh, and yesterday I took my wife to work on the Rumbler.  She told me that it's FAR MORE COMFORTABLE than the old XL 200 was.  :)

Cleaned the points and checked the gap, checked the sparking plug, adjusted the idle mixture, re checked the sparking plug, adjusted the front brake cable and then cleaned the headlight connections.

You C5 and G5 guys might consider picking up an Iron Barrel like mine so you can have some maintenance fun too.

 Wished for a G5.

I think we're gonna be in trouble when our EFI's come prefilled with lifetime oil and filters

On a quick ride down to "Carthage" and back I hit an indicated 100 kmh for the first time.  The tach reads right at 3600 rpm at that speed in fifth gear.  And it's smooth at that speed, much smoother than I'd been lead to expect. The run in process continues, this was the first four lane highway jaunt, although our four-lanes are nothing to compare to the ones up in the U.S. of A. Most traffic is between 70 - 80 kmh with the occasional person in a hurry zipping past at 120 kmh. So varying from 50 to 80 for the most part with the bump up to 100 was no problem at all, just watch the traffic flow and stay awake to what the other guy is doing, both the one in front and the one overtaking from behind.

Beautiful crisp morning to ride into work.......bike died again LOL.  I thought I found the electrical Gremlin, but I guess not. Probably just a short somewhere HEH. At least with the kick start I can turn the headlight off and get where I need to go  ;)

The alcohol wash part sounds good... at least the second one does!

Apparently the cold weather up north has shut down this thread for the most part.  Well, here north of the Equator and south of the Canal we've had good riding weather.  Today, however, all I did was check oil as "Pico y Placa" means I couldn't run the bike between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m..  No, don't ask my opinion of socialism.  I try to avoid that kind of vocabulary.

On the other hand, yesterday I did get a chance to clean up some of the grime from last weeks long trip.  Not much, but some.  The bad news is, somewhere along the way I picked up some type of oil, probably from the areas where they were repairing road - and it was raining.  Nasty stuff all over the place, but worst of all is the baked on junk on the exhaust pipe. What would take THAT off?  Carb cleaner won't even touch it, although it cleans other parts of the bike just fine.

Hmmm.... will have to see if I can find any.  Steel wool here tends to be a bit coarse. That didn't scratch up the chrome?

How do you avoid taking the shine off the chrome with steel wool? Especially removing something like road tar as AmBraCol says. (Unless that's your goal as it is mine).
RI USA '08 Black AVL Classic.9.8:1 ACEhead/manifold/canister. TM32/Open bottle/hot tube removed. Pertronix Coil. Fed mandates removed. Gr.TCI. Bobber seat. Battery in right side case. Decomp&all doodads removed. '30s Lucas taillight/7" visored headlight. Much blackout & wire/electrical upgrades.

0000 steel wool is very fine.  It's what I was taught to use to polish rusty chrome bumpers.  Works even better if you use it with glass cleaner.

+1.
My shine was just fine after using the 0000.
Thanks for mentioning the glass cleaner, Scottie!  ;D
