Getting the return springs off and on is a total PITA!
I always hard wire these Battery Tender connections directly to my motorcycle batteries.~
+1 and ditto. I routed mine to put the connecter inside the left hand tool box. Beside keeping the connector secure and protected, the tool box lid being open is a visual reminder for folks like me to disconnect the battery tender before take off.

Another drum brake hint--To get the springs off and on easily, just rotate the shoes up to a vertical position and lift the shoes and springs out as a unit. Put them back in by reassembling the springs to the shoes outside the drum, slip them back down over the pin and cam vertically and rotate the shoes back into the drum. Don't forget a dab of grease on the cam and pin!Bare
Tentatively diagnosed a rattle as a broken retaining clip on the heat shield. I can't be positive though as I have not taken it apart yet, and don't really want to as the screws have yet to loosen up on me @~1900 miles. maybe tomorrow.
