Changed the spark plug and spark plug cap with NGK brand, what a surprise to me, no more cutoff at idle, no more back firing, no more abrupt throttle, no more cursing when all that happen, can't be more happy with only $14 spend.   ;D ;D

how hard was it to do the spark plug cap?
I've never attempted it before...but I've been wanting to use the NGK cap as well.

Easy peasy. Twist on twist off. The spark plug cap has a tiny "screw" inside that the wire "threads" itself onto.

Resistor plugs are not needed in my bike ('06 Iron Barrel) as the plug cap has an internal resistor of its own.
No matter where you go, there, you are.

Got that first oil change.

Then they told me I could take her on the highway.

So I did.

Stripped a used TM32 I'm going to put on the Bullet and soaked it in Lestoil to give it a dark grey, parkerized look.  Soaked a couple of hours, rinsed in volumous flow of hot water, soaked with WD-40.  Looks like the old M-16s with the Phosphatized receivers.  Should look  appropriate on a Military Iron Barrel.

What the... the carb in those pics looks totally faked, like old colorized b&w pics.  Very cool.  This is the first I've heard of somebody using a cleaner in order to obtain a certain color!

Reminds me of when I used Pine-sol to clean my BMW carbs - I was clueless, and the person instructing me fail to mention that I should dilute it with water.  I was afraid I killed them; they went super-dull battleship-gray, and lots of gunk (oxidized material?) sloughed off when I tried to clean them:

Cleaned up and ran good in the end, though:

Not sure if these pics will stay, but it doesn't matter...

unfortunately i was getting a vast number of false neutrals so i checked the clutch play. once i adjusted it back from 5mm to 2mm or just half a turn on the adjustment nut - things improved dramatically.

They stayed.  Way cool!
Don't leave them too long or the Pinesol will eat them.
I was going to paint it with OD Green Lauer Duracoat two part epoxy paint, but decided the Pinesol is less work.

D the D -  That is awesome!  I think I might do that to my Amal for the Blackhawk.  I was actually thinking of either polishing it or painting it black, but that just looks cool as shit!  Is the coating durable or does it wear off?

It's fairly durable. It'll wear off of rubbing surfaces and can be polished off.  I use a toothbrush to clean the parts when I scrub the Lestoil off and it doesn't remove it.  It gets harder after a day.  A carb isn't handled much and doesn't rub on anything so it should last a long time.

Took the bike out for its weekly ride.   On the way back I was still 15 miles from home and the bike developed a heavy vibration.  Couldn't make it out, hard to check it while riding.  Performance was not affected and the gearing seemed to be ok.  Vibration increased with rpm's. Thought it might be the chain, so I started to take it easy to get home.  Came to a highway stoplight and the bike died.  Low idle I guess.  Pushed it out of traffic and started to kick start it.  Took a couple of kicks and then when it started, I heard a metal sound hit the ground.  Looked down and saw a 3inch bolt?  Was this from my bike?  Looked underneath the gas tank and sure enough, the upper engine mount bolt was missing.  Wow,  must have vibrated off on the ride today.  With the bolt now in my pocket, vibration was worse.  Took it very slow the last few miles to get home.  I'll have to get me a lock nut and replace the bolt.  Interesting day.

I placed the subject on the kitchen counter, touched the camera app icon, pointed the phone, and pressed the iris icon.  The focus and flash were automatic.
