Yeah, who would have thought that simply lowering the back pressure in the well could cause such a catastrophe, eh?

This mess is probably 10 times worse than they let on. It will KILL the beaches and marshes in the entire gulf from Tx to Fl.. and damn near everything there.
Damn, they still act like it's just a lil' spill.
What pisses me off is that alot of Americans don't give a sh*t. There are no crying babies and burning homes to put on TV so the news thinks it's too boring to devote alot of attn. to. And let's face it,alot of people don't give a sh*t about the enviroment. They're too dumb or self centered to realize this is VERY BAD!  I'm no tree hugger/greenie hippie but this will effect everyone.  >:(  Sheeple have been told it's not going to effect them or the enviroment and they believe it. Dispersent will take care of it. BaaaaBaaaa

I feel that not enough people care about it but it may be that, like me,they just feel helpless to do anything about something this big.I feel that this was coming, sooner or later, now it is here and nobody seems to know what to do about it but to try to assign blame.Human nature,of course.I see that the company has already started talking about the clean up.Ok to think ahead but we are way off from even being able to keep up with this thing at present.

It's unbeliveable that they didn't have a plan "B" for something like this. Yes, there is a "blowout" valve (plan A) they put on the seabed, but what if it's faulty or fails?Nothing, nada, zip. Inconceivable!  Some floating tampons and that's it?? Some dispersant that God know what will do to the enviroment? A half assed plan to put a cup on it? Blow golf balls down it? Stick a straw in it and keep sucking? You can't say they couldn't afford any plan B with the meager little profit they make off us?  >:(

Problem is its a mile deep, maybe deep drilling should not be allowed if they can control it.

Im not in America so the impact does not affect me but I was horrified when on the news this morning that it could spread to Europe --hey now come on, we dont want that crap on our beaches!!

Thanks for posting that Vince.  I just read that yesterday as well, and it really disgusts you, doesn't it?  There needs to be a way to hold these guys to reasonable standards of safety and basic decency everywhere, not just here.  What the people of Nigeria have suffered through with this and decades of political unrest and corruption is an incredible ongoing human tragedy.

As usual we are very U.S. centric, as if the universe revolves around us.

When I lived (for a short while) in New Zealand, I was amazed to hear all that went on in the rest  of the world.

Americans live behind a very selective wall of information.

Thank you for sharing Vince. I plan to forward this article on to as many people as possible to get them aware and thinking.

Been reading the Guardian for  a couple of years now, pretty good rag.
I'm somewhat surprised and pleased to find a couple others here also enjoy it.

I also read that article several days ago, but for some reason was not surprised that the oil companies are showing their true nature in poor countries where a few dollars will take care of their enormous profits for a long time.

Im not--- we don't want this crap on our British beaches. It would probably hit Newquey first, thats a lovely place, fish and chips and jellied eels like wot henry 8th used to eat.

Sigh--Henry the 8th was an old king we used to have --yes before the Beatles.

Actually he loved a plate of jellied eels at the Isle of dogs in London.
