I've noticed that there are three kinds of liberal/socialists that voted for BO.

By far the largest group won't admit it [Didja notice how fast the Obama bumperstickers disapeared after the election except for a few old Volvos?].  Silence is their defence.

The next, smaller group tend to admit it but are not capable of admitting it was a stupid mistake.  You get statements like "Well, he was a good speaker".

The third group is clearly the most comical.  They gleefully admit voting for the idiot but mindlessly continue to defend Obama's limp wrested socialistic programs!

Federal intervention into what a parent can feed his child is right down his road!

I guess I could just as easily say I've noticed mostly one kind of person who makes asinine statements like that.  I'm respectful enough of people who disagree with me to not tarnish this place by defining it for you.

Eamon, no tarnish, no insults. Socialism fails. Period. I assume you've seen the news? Greece is on fire. Europe is close to financial collapse. The US is approaching 84% debt load-to-GDP ratio. All results of the tax & spend, omnipresent government nanny state. Need I mention the current fiscal state of California?  This is not political propaganda. These are facts. And they're happening now, as I type this. Are you aware that Barbara Boxer is on the edge of defeat? That the LA times refused to endorse her? The LA Times?
I will switch my party affiliation to Democrat and throw money at Harry Reid and Barry Obama, if you can, despite the disintegration of the USSR, and failure of all countries engaged in socialism, lay out a bullet-proof argument as to why socialist policies and massive taxes are the way to go, when capitalism and freedom built the greatest society the world has ever seen, and has lasted more than 230 years.
Fire away. ;D
Oh, one more thing before you even mention it. Yes, I was against the Bush TARP. Yes, I was against the Bush spending. Yes, I am equally critical of Republicans who are Republicans in name only, like McCain and Lindsay Grahahm. Yes, the Patriot Act sux. Yes, I was against the Reagan amnesty of 1986 and so on.

I think that one of the REAL problems in this country are the "Entitlement Generations" - THESE are the people who breed the social and corporate welfare that we are all so much against. Of course the CORPORATE welfare is disguised as "research grants" and the like - but it is still a handout. Times were good after WWII - and money was seemingly unlimited. Rather than "save for a rainy day" as was done right after the Great Depression - spending was THE thing to do. GROWTH became the buzzword of every industry. People forgot about concepts like "stable operation" and "savings" and long term planning - it was all for the next quarter.

Fast forward to today - no savings, no long term planning, no stable operations - everything leveraged on the next quarters growth and OF COURSE you have economic collapse. All one would have to do is pay attention to the FIRST Great Depression to know how the heck we got HERE. It's not a Republican or a Democrat problem - it is a SOCIAL problem. People in this country have gotten used to the silver spoon in their mouths ...... I feel sorry for those people in today's economy who can only BUY what they think they need - they are the suffering bastards. Those who know how to make due or do without are not too affected by the current uproar.

Nice army of straw men there!  I'm not going to bother addressing you point by point (you're mind won't be changed), but will just say I'm not a socialist and neither is Obama, nor are many of those who voted for him.  The problems the world economy are mostly caused due to rampant greed and systems (of all political stripes) that encouraged it.

I'm with you all the way, except that I think it's become a global problem, not just American.  Also, the corporate welfare is all the more problematic since it often ends up benefitting multi-national corporations who influence our political system to their own benefit, while giving back little to nothing in return.

You know, Eamon - You are right .... it IS somewhat of a global problem in the "first world" countries - I guess ALL of us got swept up with it at once. It's very interesting for me to see some "up and coming" countries - like India and China - that are about in the position that this country was about 50 years ago. I wonder if THEY will fall into the same "trap" that the rest of us have - and who will be the next "up and coming" manufacturing giant after those guys "sell out" to the greed and apathy. It's really interesting to me ...... I just wish some folks in this country could raise their heads out of the ditch and SEE that ..... and help us get back to our roots as self-sufficient ... sigh ....

I will tell you how hypocritical the morons in Washington are. ( the whole lot of them both dems or republicans). Is anyone here aware that we don't even make our own money any more?

Many of our coins are made in Canada at one of their mints. The put the alloy sandwiches together, punch out the coin and put the edges on them. All we do is put the final stamp on them. The government itself is sending jobs out of the country all the while talking about big bad business that is the cause of jobs going overseas.

Where did I come ac cross this information? The significant other of one of our staff members recently did some engineering work at the Canadian mints and discovered this on his own. First hand account.

Here is a quote I just lifted from the US Mint website:
"All of the materials used for producing our coins are purchased from commercial manufacturers".
Best Regards,

Define away if it pleases you.
Guess what, the Obama administration is currently working on establishing salt levels in prepared foods!  No more sunflower seeds, no salt pork, few potato chips of any type, etc. etc.. Happy Meal ban is the tip of the iceburg for these folks.  Obama is a socialist, not mearly a far left liberal, and has surrounded himself with people that want us to be like Euorpe, or closer to the mark, like Cuba.  Them fools are absolutely convinced they have the duty to save us from ourselves!  Early on in the idotic Carter administration it was clear to anyone watching that he was out of touch with reality.  For instance, he GAVE AWAY the Panama canal after we stole it fair and square.  Impossible for him it be re-elected because he couldn't learn by his first year mistakes.  This dumbo Obama won't even admit that he has made any mistakes, let alone attempt to straighten out his act.  Carter, Clinton and now, unbelieveably, Obama....what a bunch of Democrap mistakes.

Obama didn't ban Happy Meals - some dumb asses in one county did.  Guess what?  Dumb asses from all sides of the fence try to control your life.  Obama is not coming for your salt!   ???  You can guzzle your right wing talk radio/Fox News/Glenn Beck kool aid all day long, but it doesn't make Obama (or me, or "liberals") a socialist.  Believe me, I'm far more left (whatever that means) than Obama..  Fox News calling him the "most liberal senator" doesn't make it true any more than when they used the same propaganda term on mister milk toast, John Kerry.

I also fail to see what Jimmy Carter and the Panama Canal has to do with this, but then you're not exactly making sense to me elsewhere in your arguments.  But hey, it's not like you or I are changing anybody else's mind here.  I really don't care what you think, but there are plenty of folks who are like me on this forum, and I don't take kindly to this place being used to disparage us.  Reasonable people can respectfully disagree with each other and keep this place a friendly place where we talk about motorcycles and assorted other things.
