Regarding the dropped ball of driver education... I know of a video series called blood on the highway or similar... they didn't show it to me when I was in school... I did however witness a big dump truck t bone a dodge omni, ford escort type little hatchback... the sound was the sickest thunk gunshot kind of sound... the car was less than half its original width... three or four of the five highschoolers inside got killed. I was 14 or so...

I feel that if kids saw what can happen, what can really happen.... they might be inclined to drive better throughout their lives...

I remember seeing a film called Blood on The Highway in Driver ED back in 1970 or there abouts. The film's lesson only lasted for about 15 minutes after you got your license. Seeing or experiencing the real thing has the most impact. As you say people just don't realize what can happen. Maybe spending a Saturday nite in an Emergency Room should be a Driver's ED requirement.
Watch out for the guy behind the guy in front of you
