I have a 2000 Bullet that had just "Enfield" on its original tank.
I think that was the last year for "Enfield" and they became Royal Enfield on the tanks after that.

Huh.  So why do I see pictures going WAY back where the tank says "Royal Enfield"?  Waas it an option like air conditioning or the contenetal kit?

The English made ones were Royal Enfields.
The Indian end of it was either Enfield or Enfield India until 94 when Eicher bought the company. Don't know when they changed the name on the tank.
They started putting Royal Enfield on the tanks somewhere in 2000 in the US. I've seen 2000s both ways.
My 99 is an Enfield and my 01 is a Royal Enfield.
Canada had Royal Enfield on the tank in 1995.
No matter what label you put on one it's still a Enfield Bullet.

The current manufacturer of the marque in India only had "licence" to build the bikes for many years. You have to give them a lot of credit for not just taking the trade mark name of Royal Enfield after the final UK manufacturer closed its doors. I'm sure they secured full international trade mark rights before thay started to use the name. The name itself goes clear back to before 1900 in the UK. I think they were making sewing machines if I remember correctly.

This is only as regards India-made Enfields.
All the British made ones were Royal Enfield, but they went out of business in 1970.
India wasn't really allowed to use the "Royal" part of the name, because that related to the British monarchy.
Eventually around the recent turn of the century, there was some legal action, and the Enfield company got to use the name Royal Enfield legally, and began to use it.

To tell the truth, aside from lubing the chain, I never paid much attention to it.
Is it possible I have an O-Ring chain?!  (I don't really think so, but...)
 Would an O-Ring even fit?

I was told by an "Enfield spezialist" that the early 99's  were not licensed, of course Ace's 2000 blows that theory. My early 99 is an Enfield, but a Royal pain  !

Mine has an engine date of 6/99, but it's registered as a 2000.
