Agree with above.  I also have an '08 AVL in Green.  Just turned 3400 miles and it's turning in to a real fun (and dependable) bike.

Wondering why the chain looks so close to end of adjustment with so few miles.  If you get it check it out.

I am looking for one for a friend. This looks too good to pass away. BTW, how can you tell if it is an AVL ?

Great price. Makes me wonder why it is selling for so little.

Biggest tip-off, at least to my eyes, is the height of the head relative to the height of the black barrel. The cast iron barrels on the classic engines are about twice the height of the black-painted barrel portion on the lean-burn.

Plus the iron barrel rocker covers are taller and flat- sort of like a top hat- whereas the AVL covers are slantes, peaking towards the middle.
Truthfully, the iron barrels sound better, too.  Not as tinny.

Valve lifter on the tappet cover instead of the decompressor valve on the opposite side to the spark plug.

This is an odd beast though. All UK Lean Burn official imports have a disc front brake, battery and air cleaner covers in place of tool boxes and the small "sausage" shaped boxes behind them. There are also differences in the rear framework.

This is badged as a 500ES.

New to me.

That's a different model here in the 'States;  called the "Electra" (as opposed to the Classic, Classic Deluxe, and Military).

specs wise the avl has a cv carb the iron has a slide mikuni copy.

The head looks diffferent than the iron bore;  It's easiest to spot the different" rocker boxes" if you're playing spot the AVL  from INTERNET pictures for money or beer.:Come to think about it:,The primary covers are different too.
Oh yeah diehard purist will turn up their noses within 50 yards. and veer off course...

Best I can tell, the AVL is a great bike. Nimble, reliable, and plenty powerful for cruising around town.

As for diehard purists, well, if they're really diehards, they're probably snubbing the Indian-made Enfields anyway, so who cares what they think? :)
