I did most of my break in on my 2007 Classic riding on lots of shorter rides on nice, sedate back roads. The very early break in rides were during the cold of winter too, which gave it lees of a chance to overheat. My bike has never shown any indication of overheating.Mine's at 3000+ miles now.

yea I know....   IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!
in my case I just got tired of pouring a couple of ounces of oil in every time
I got back home. Compression was down a little but with the flatslide it was
still a major boot in the arse. I can't wait to get it run-in to find out what it'll
really do.   have you measured the cylinder and the piston to find out
how tight it's gonna be?

No, it came out of CJ's '99.  I stuck it in there and it slid up and down so I'm thinking it will be OK.  Yeah I know all the engineers are having a fit but I look at it this way, over in India they overhaul these things using a cresent wrench and a screw driver while squatting in the dirt so how bad could I screw it up?
