Got my military home today ( LOVE IT). Got my first parking lot "looky- loo" bmw rider  in the walmart parking lot( yeah; this will get old for a low key guy like myself.).  Geico insurance seems high; punched in another online quote and the vin slot says:"2009 KIT/HOMEMADE/STATE ASSIGN VIN " Noticed the vin looks hand engraved Does this cost more??
how's your insurance ???

OK Ace heres the deal as I know it here in the great U.S. of A. , insurance companies don't like what they don't know. I looked at geico and yes very high. State Farm didn't think it was a motorcycle. progressive gave me a quote of like 120 a year so i took it. but no theft and no payout if i cause the crash... Now why for some reason they think the bike was home made do to the first letters in the vin. So I told them I have a bill of sales from the dealer. Then they said it was considered a kit due to the low production number. In short they don't like what they don't know. There are people that have fought the insurance companies with the dealer backing them and get full coverage... I'm going to do that come my 1 yr renewal. GOOD Luck.

Someone at Progressive is blowing smoke up your b---.  I know my military is like 95 a year and wifeys Electra is very close to that.  And thats with all the bells and whistles.  Okay wifeys is $101/yr.  Just rechecked the policy renewal siiting here, And it wasn't quoted to me as a kit bike.  As a matter of fact the deductibles have disappeared on both Enfields this year.  Maybe I talked to the right person at Progressive.

It happened to me too. I called CMW. They called the insurance company and set it straight. IT IS NOT A KIT BIKE. The quotes will remain high as long as it is treated as such. And coverage issues will remain. I went for esurance, got full comprehensive coverage for about 178.
