Has anyone installed "flower bolts" on their toolboxes? Do they replace the keys? Do they need to be spun a 1000 times to close the box? Would anyone recommend them?

I would like to get rid of the keys on my toolboxes, and this looks like a possibility.

Thanks,
-Rick

Let me know what street you live on so i can steal your tools after you mod the locks for the bolts ;)

My bike has them as stock. I would think the keylock would have quite a bit larger hole than these require so you would have to close it up somehow. On mine I have put a thick washer behind the flower so that it stick out enough for my fingers to grab it well and to keep from having it crush the cover onto the box I put a length of rubber hose on the inside so that as the cover contacts the box it has bottomed out on the hose, this keeps it from vibrating loose without cranking it too tight and distorting th cover... I am not crazy about the way the flower looks I have thought of epoxying on a couple of Black Label bottle caps as they match my color scheme....

My tools are in my unlocked saddle bag. You can steal my fuse after I remove the locks.

It sounds like flower bolts will not work. Has anyone else removed the toolbox locks?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a "flower bolt"?

The bolt that holds the toolbox closed, if you use your imagination the head looks like a flower, or bottlecap...

Must have changed them on later models, my '04 just has a round lock, like on a cabinet or drawer.

Depends what type of toolbox you have. The older flat lid boxes have a threaded retainer to accept the flower. The later round lids don't. You will have to modify these to fit.   ERC

Battery box was pretty straight forward, it was the only screw that didn't have destructions included.  If I remember correctly just remove the lock from the box cover, use supplied screw through nylon washer.  Place into cover opening and use the supplied snap ring to secore it to the battery box.  The other pieces are the mount, the bigger bolt goes on the front of the box, the smaller nut goes on from behind.  Took about 20 minutes to remove the key lock and install the bolt kit.

The tool box screws consist of a keeper that installs with the front top mount bolt  for the tool box.  Remove that bolt and attach the keeper inside the box.  The mount screw goes through the tool box cover much the same as the battery box.  Screw..nylon washer on the outside.  Nylon washer..then rubber washer on the inside and secures with a snap ring.  Just leave thae keeper inside the toolbox loose until you have the location of both parts lined up.  Kind of a balancing act since the keeper bolt has a nut and lock washer that you use from the original mount set-up.

Whole job took less than about 60 minutes, including cuss break.

What he said. Everything I have seen online simply shows the bolts. I will try to call CMW tomorrow.

I've got the old flat lid boxes that were made to take the flower screw. Will be interesting to see if you find out there's a kit for the later boxes. The flowers work great on mine I've never had them unscrew.    ERC

These are a flathead screw arrangement thingy.  I was thinking of making a T handle for mine now that I have them installed.  Wouldn't be all that hard to mod a pair.

I contacted Hitchcock's and they told me that the flower bolts are intended for the old boxes and will not work with new boxes. It is great you got them working Will. If you happen to be by your bike with a camera, I would like to see how they close.

I am considering a different piece they sell to close the boxes. Not as cool looking but I really want to get rid of those locks.

Edit: Just called CMW does not currently stock these
