I can get working on the Bullet now - she is happily sitting in front of one of the bookcases, and looking like she should be here. I tried posting a picture, but it didn't work out. I will try to fix this later.

The perfect answer to the cold winter season. Sit back in your easy chair with a fire going and a holiday beverage in one hand and watch the golden dancing reflections off the polished aluminum!

Now if I can just sell the wife on the idea!

I have been enjoying the above description for a lot of years. You will also find yourself coming up with ideas to change the looks of the bike, or picturing things on it while your wife watches "Dancing With The Stars". You can even put a pedastal fan in front of it, hop on the bike and go for a long cruise without even starting it.   Hutch

I have yet to find a woman who'd allow a motorcycle in the house, much less in the living room!

Roen, my Lady, quite likes the idea, and even told me she doesn't care if I rebuild the engine on the dinner table..  What a Girl. Her comment to this thread was - quote:

"It is the Dad's problem with their daughters - if the Dads had taught the daughters properly, the wives wouldn't have a problem with it. "

So, guys, go teach your daughters the importance of freedom for males to have bikes in the house.. :) it is official, my Lady says so.

So I guess that carbs in the dishwasher and freshly painted cylinders in the oven would be out of the question eh?

I was lucky ,my wife loved bikes as much as me. She always painted the walls, but my high heat painted parts in the oven always smelled better to me.  Hutch

With a wife and two daughters, I'm looking to get out of the house and spend time with the Bullet, rather than staying inside! It used to be, I'd have a say in what went on at the house, but with the three of them, I get little say now! I'm looking to build a heated utopia on the side of the garage, for me, the Bullet, Jake the dog (boy) and maybe the Suzuki if it'll fit. That way I can enjoy the RE all winter long in a small piece of heaven! Not the quite the living room, but in this case, maybe better than the living room!

I wouldn't want it any different, the wife is great and I have two adorable little girls, but I could just use some "man" space from time to time!

BanditRE that's something we can all agree to! Hope your project works out for you. I  lost the 2 car garage to my wife. Now I have the plans for a small shop (pole-barn) for next spring. This one is located away from the house.  ;)

Yeah I'm hoping it works out too, VMAX! It'll be a few years coming, but darn it, its coming! The girls are still young, so as long as I have it built and ready by the time the oldest hits 10 or 11 years old, I'll be safe!

I'm thinking I should add a shower out there as well, otherwise with only one bathroom in the house, I'll never get in there...... :P

Yeah its all my head right now. Unfortunately, every time I go out for a smoke and let the pooches out, I stare at the space behind the garage and 'figure out' how best to build it. I'm sure there must be something more important for the ol' noodle to be working on, but its fixed on this! One day.....

I sold my wife and built my bike in the living room it is 90 degrees and relative humidity is 98% so the patio was out of the question. I posted a picture of my living room garage and yes I used the kitchen table for a work bench. Picture under retro.

A separate shop is important to me at least.  I built a small house for some relatives to live in.  When that didn't work out (they ended up having seven children) I converted it to a shop.  It is 24 foot square with an 8 by 12 foot rustic bath, shower and laundry.  The bath part worked out especially well for cleaning up.  I have a 24 by 12 foot machine shop on one side and a wood shop in the other half.  The bike will easily fit in the machine shop part, but I want to rig up better lighting.

When I lived in the U.S. I converted the garage into a shop.  It was about the same size as my present one.   I also have a large carport where I keep the boats to be finished.  It will soon be converted into a meat processing plant for a new business.
I'm going to get out of boat building because of allergies to most of the materials.    Things slowly evolve around here - not much planning, just letting them happen.

It has all been done over a fifteen year period, so the cost gets spread out.  Just a step at a time is a good way to do things, then you don't get yourself upset.

A separate workshop is important to me as well. Can't have the bikes and the kids in the same place, the kids would never get any attention! Now if I was single, I could honestly see the bike in the house!

Hi guys . It's been a while since I've written anything, but  I try to read the Forum every day. Yesterday I read about ,  "The Enfield in the living room". I casually mentioned this to my fiance and to my utter surprise she liked the idea!!! She loves the look of the Enfield and felt that it would look great in the alcove off of the living room. She actually wants to make an  "Enfield corner" with posters etc. If it wasn't for the Forum, I would never have even thought of this!  I'm off to buy a ramp!                    Thanks;D

Sorry Bandit, she only has 2 ugly brothers! I will try to post pictures of "The Enfield Corner" when it's finished. At this time I've got to pick up a ramp to get it into the house. We live in a Philadelphia "townhouse" (politically correct nomenclature for a "rowhome") and have three steps to climb to get into the living room. The bike is kept under 2 Dow bike covers in the summer and I store it in my brothers garrage during the winter. It's a bit of a pain because he lives 30 miles north of me. This way I'll be able to putter with it to my hearts content the entire winter!!!! The gods have smiled upon me!!!!  ;D cochi

I built a Triumph 250 in the kitchen, after the parts(read complete bike) had been stored in the bedroom, Ive watched trials videos while balancing on a Ty175 Yamaha in my living room. That freedom doesnt come free, though, Ive paid my dues, over and over, and over. have fun, mtrude

Sounds like you have a winner Cochi! A bike in the living room and an understanding fairer half. The Gods have truly smiled on you! You fully realise that you'll have to remodel the kitchen because she "allowed" you to store the bike in the house, right? ;D  I'd love to see a picture when you have it all set up.

Bandit, funny you should mention remodeling the kitchen. I start painting this Saturday, but in all fairness this project was in the books before the decision was made about the "Enfield corner".  Once I figure out how to use  the digital camara and feed the info into the computer I will attempt to post a picture when we are finished. I'm a bit of a moron when it comes to computers, so this may take some time. Mechanical gadgets are no problem for me,  but when it comes to electronics  I believe it' s all done with smoke, mirrors and black magic. I guess that's why I like connected with the Bullet. Cochi :)

Following your lead, RagMan, I put my kayak in the front room. There may be a hurricane coming this weekend and I didn't want to bother tying it down or having it loose on the front porch.  My wife would approve this sort of thing, were she not still in the U.S., but a motorcycle?

Have some kids, Cochi, they can figure all that electronic garb out for you, then you won't have to worry about it! My four year old can program the DVR, and I don't even know what a DVR is. Came from the cable company, who knows. I thought thats what VCR's did?

I'll be thinking of you and yours this weekend, Larry.  Having been through Katrina, I just hope you and yours will be ok.  Please post on the forum , whenever you can and let us all know you made it through ok.  By the way, are they called hurricanes or typhoons down your way, not that it really makes a jot of difference?  Be safe and I'm sure there's many on here who look forward to hearing from you after the event.  Good luck mate!

My Lady is used to my strange behavior - I like to sleep with new things I buy - so having a bike only in the living room is fine by her.

Thanks for your concern.  Sounds like Katrina has gotten you spooked - as well it should.  I just heard the hurricane has shifted to the northwest of Fiji and they may get hit, probably not us.

Big hurricanes hit here every twenty years or so.  There were biggies in 1962,
1981 and 2001, smaller ones in between.  The one that hit here six years ago was pretty bad, power out for a month or so, but, since it hit during low tide, shore homes weren't hit as bad as would have been the case at a high tide.  People still want to live right on the water, but I have never liked the idea.  There is also the danger of Tsunamis.  We are on the eastern edge of one of the great tectonic plates which is tilting downward toward the East (all underwater) and has left the second deepest trench in the world just to the east of us.  It is second in depth to the Marianas trench,
Anyway, what this means is frequent earthquakes (last one a year or two ago at 8 on the Richter scale), and infrequent tsunamis.  We seem to have an earthquake every few weeks.  I have gotten so used to them I hardly pay attention. Amazing how puny we are in the face of nature!

But I think we are safe for this latest one - my only concern is that it is occurring so early in the season.  We usually don't get hit until closer to March.  Global warming?

Anyway, the kayak will soon be back out on the pouch, but maybe not.  It is easy to get adjusted to things like boats (or motorcycles) in the house, isn't it? I wonder if I should let my dog in - naw, too many fleas.

I'll just keep mine in the finished basement and not push the living room idea.  Much easier to get them worked on when its warm.  It was °6 this morning when I left for work and we are expecting 2-4" of more snow tonight.  Yay.

Living with the wife and bike in the house is a breeze.  I rebuilt and customized a 1958 Honda Dream in barracks upstairs.    I had to put up with the 1stSgt and got away with it.  This was at Yokota AB in 1964.   Got some pics to prove  it I think....I think that bike was more quaint then the Bullet...dg

Foggy said, "I have yet to find a woman who'd allow a motorcycle in the house, much less in the living room!"

Well, you've just met one. We have a like-new Benelli Cobra 125 next to the dining table. My only gripe is that our house is too small to accommodate more motorcycles. Maybe we should get rid of some of the furniture.

So glad I don't have to have a wife. She'd probably make me sell all the bikes.

I did some front end work on my vintage scooter in my living room a couple years ago.  I had a tarp under it of course and I waited until my wife went to visit our daughter about 300 miles away to do it.  That might sound less manly then some would like, but I'm not stupid.

She came home, things were fine, just like nothing at all happened.  What?  What scooter are you talking about?  I haven't seen any scooters in here!
