What should I be looking for?

Look for abnormal wear to rod ends or bearing or fusing of the bearing to rods as Ace had mentioned. Be aware that the rods have bluing (tempering) on them from the factory, so this is normal and not to be confused as a problem.

I just did mine and I made sure they weren't heat bonded together and removed a couple burrs with a diamond file and stone. Then I greased them up with some Amsoil red high temp grease.  Clutch works much smoother.  You may not have the ball bearing design roller pad.  If not they are available from the store for a very reasonable price.  I also cleaned the pieces to (discs/plates) to remove any imperfections.

Lube your cable also if some grit got into it maybe it's hanging up not allowing the clutch to fully engage.  Another owner posted a while ago he smoothed out his pieces so they were flatter.  You could also go to heavy springs and replace every other one with those.  Also available from the store.

I plan on doing a clutch upgrade improvement in the spring to eliminate drag/slip.  And think the best bang for my buck is the roller pad, heavier springs, and replace the discs/plates.  I may even go to the miracle clutch but I'll wait on that until I research it more.  Good luck, Will.

The grease seems to last Ernie. I just clean and replace grease on rods and ball bearing during routine maintenance on clutch or gearbox.
