Install was easy.

Won't have to worry about furry animals in the road. They certainty hear me coming.

Going to have to be careful around my small village. Don't want to upset the gray hairs... oops.. I'm in that category.

Reminds me of the traditional bark of singles back in the day.

Ear plugs recommended for long rides.

Like the looks a LOT better. The Loooooooong silencer looked strange.

Well done, the classic exhaust is a sweet move...i love mine. Are you still running the stock carb and air filter?

Stock carb and filter but rejeted the carb.

The bike was really running rich before the exhaust change for some reason. Carbon everywhere could be seen when swapping it out. The plug was really fouled looking but still started great and ran great for some reason. Had the air pump removed and the crankcase vented to below the bike already.

ST,

How MUCH louder than the stock is it?  I just ordered mine and I was hoping to get something just a little louder but more free flow.

Thanks,

Z

Harley riders will approve...

I have the baffle in and would say at least 4 times louder if not more.

But it drowns out the tappets!

I like the zeppelin silencer.  When it's a cold start all you hear are the tappets, and the "choof choof choof" of the engine.  With the short silencer it's BRAP BRAP BRAP - I like my quiet jaunts into the night.

I love the "Bark" of the fine tuned single. Mine, however, has changed.

When I installed the very basic (read: cheap) electronic ignition, I also installed the stronger advance mechanism spring (one side). What this did was to delay the ascent to full advance and even out the advance curve. It also changed the exhaust note. It no longer barks but is just loud all the time.

According to Vince (Olympia, WA dealer and sage) the bike is now more efficient. The bark we all know and love was actually due to an overloading and ineffiecient (uneven) combustion. (I hope I explained that well, enough. Don't quiz me on the numbers, ask Vince. He might know.)

I know my bike feels smoother in the power end of things but, nonetheless, I do miss the "Bark".

The stock exhaust sounded "like goose farts on a muggy morning" (anybody know who I stole that phrase from?)

Hmmm ... Harley sound is not what I want.  I hate overly loud motorcycles.  Keep the eyes peeled for a slightly used Classic Exhaust for sale in the next week or so, possibly :|

I have the Gold Star exhaust system on my bike, which is straight-thru, and I have the removable baffle(same as shown above) removed. No restriction at all.

It is NOT as loud as the Harleys that ride around with open pipes, and it's much quieter than that, even with the baffle out.
It's even quieter with the baffle installed.

Yes, it's louder than a restrictive heavily-baffled muffler, but that's what makes it work.
I have never had a complaint from any neighbors about my bike being too loud.

But, "quiet" is in the ear of the beholder, so it's an individual taste thing.
However, more restriction in the muffler is going to give more restriction to the engine, and it will not run as efficiently, and give less power.
Your call.

This will give you an idea of the sound when you are taking care not to make too much noise.

Yes, that's a good clip.

And that's what it sounds like coming out the back end, which is the loudest way to listen to it, and it's reinforced by a narrow roadway lined with brick buildings, that increase the sound level.

I personally find that to be a normal sounding motorcycle.
Anything quieter than that is a "weenie bike". :D

I don't mean to say I don't like it but I was surprised when I first heard the difference.

There are no stock Jap bikes that are as loud as my Bullit is now.
The sound is also louder sitting on the bike and I don't have stone buildings fencing me in. But I will say that when I am riding next to a stone wall I can tell!

Having heard them back in the day I will say that it is the same.
