This Classic of mine started cutting out a few weeks ago. The engine light came on and it stalled. After that I would switch it off and on again and it started up fine. However it would only idle for about 10 sec and stall again. I checked the injector and even fitted a new pump. After the new pump was fitted it ran great for about 400 miles but then started doing the same again. Now its sitting in the shed with this problem that simply refuses to get sorted!! Anyone on here had similar problems??

Is that a UCE engine or an Iron Barrel?

I had a bad connection at the Batt - terminal that acted like you describe.  MIL light came on, engine started misfiring, then died.  Easy fix, once I found the loose connection.

Does the engine have reliable spark?

Did you retrieve any fault codes?

What model year and what market; domestic, euro or north american?  All are slightly different.
