I'm going! Woooo Hoooo!

Got my tickets in the mail the other day, including a "Lot B Tent" pass. I guess that means I need to buy a tent. I've never been to Barber, so I'm pretty excited about it. I look forward to running into other RE enthusiasts.

As shameful as it is to admit, I think I'll "cage" it down there. No way to fit a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon on the Bullet.

That's me in the avatar, so say howdy if you see me. Except, I'm not really red. I'm bald now and have a beard (I'm the last Beatnick). And, my glasses are different and I've lost weight. Most of the time I'm not screaming. Other than that, I look exactly like the avatar.

I'm about a six hour drive from Barber. I'll probably get down there mid-afternoon. Looking like a wet weekend here in southern Illinois. I hope the weather is better in Alabama!

I'm taking the mini-van down and "camping" in the back.

Does anyone know if they allow bicycles at Barber? They didn't at Mid-Ohio.

Westie... make sure you beat those Ton-Up guys!   ;D

I think bicycles are ok, can't guarantee it though.

Got down to Barber a while ago and this is what we drove through for about 90% of the trip.

Dark clouds.

Rain white-out

But it was all worth it...

Practice starts at 8am, time for some sleep.  ;D

Having a blast down here despite the soggy weather. I met Adam (westie) today and hung out a while. Great guy with a great family. I saw him race, and he did pretty well. I'm not sure where he finished because they run several classes at once.

There's a neat vintage roadracing Royal Enfield in the museum here.

Got some good pictures. I'll probably have to wait until I get home to try and post 'em. My Apple is on battery power here in the campground, and I discovered that I can't recharge with the AC outlet in my van.

Today was overcast, but tomorrow is supposed to be nice.

Me on Adam's racer.

The RE in the museum... and me again.

Adam on the grid.

Serious octane.

In the South you have a choice. Sweet Tea or Sweet Tea. The boiled peanuts were not a hit with the Ohio crew.

We really need to plan a Royal Enfield gathering here next year!

Okay... so I'm not that good at fly-by shots

Here's a few final shots of things that went on at the track. I've been to all sorts of motorcycle rallys and races (AMA, amateur, and MotoGP), and none were as much fun as this event!

I don't know how to make my pictures bigger... it may be something that PhotoBucket does?

They use a LeMans style start for one of the races.

Race of the Century. All bikes had to be at least 100 years old.

No front fender.
That's hard core.
I'd ride any bike anywhere but a front fender is a must.

I walked thru the swap meet, but I didn't see the guy. I spent most of my time there chatting with some guy who is a RE dealer in South Carolina.

I definitely got the bug to go vintage racing. However, I'm going to start out in the AHRMA motocross series. It's less expensive and not quite as dangerous and the roadracing. I already purchased my weapon. A '75 Suzuki.

Yeah, that's the baby. Except, I haven't put my assigned number on it yet (N33). I already bashed my ankle pretty good trying to kick it without my MX boots on. I'm a slow learner.
