I thought long and hard about a scooter but finally decided on the Musketball.
I would dearly love to have a Cushman Super Eagle with a V-twin and belt-drive conversion.  There are several of those around here and they are pretty fast- but I understand they get scary after 65 or 70mph.

I went to a Cushman rally last year in Hiawassee.  It was like herding cats- all these guys running around laughing their butts off.  Hilarious.   (I may find a way to get one yet...)
Run what ya brung

"Drums on both ends, top speed 56, 2500$. A low mileage 200cc bike can be had for that."  BRW

The HONDA Cub got a lot of people into motorcycling... the reverse is a plausible reaction... the SYM Symba could get a lot of motorcyclists into scootering... you, however, seem to have your mind stuck on bike ("... A low mileage 200cc bike...")... that's all; hasta la vista, baby!

...And for those who can't decide, why not turn your Sportster INTO a scooter...

I like what Craig Vetter did with this.

My area is scooter central.....no joke. Big, small, new, and old. I'm close to a sorta crappy part of town and for alot of these folks thats it as i don't think they can afford a car. The ones who do have a car use it like a bus because theres 10 people living in one house pooling the checks uncle sammy hands them and they can afford a "community vehicle"

Theres one fella who has an indian scooter and another guy who has this antique bycicle thing...kinda neat. Anymore we can tell whos coming by the sound of the scooter.

I'd take one for zipping around town for errands but would have no use for it beyond that.

My area is scooter central as well, but that's because it is Northern Idaho and any single, middle-aged man probably has a DUI or fifteen on his record and can't drive a real car anymore.

The backwards part (when you think about it) is that there are no exceptions for insurance on anything down to 45cc, so all of those "49cc" scoots you see on Ebay to get around the 50cc laws don't work here.  It's 35cc mopeds, or you have to pay full insurance.

I would rather ride a pull rope start  lawn mower engine mini bike then to be seen on a scooter.
The former is way more cool.

Sorry for the out burst, please continue...

Surprised at the wide range of opinions about “scooters”.   I was lucky enough to live in Germany while in grade school in the late 1950’s.  We travelled a lot, and I was always fascinated with the Italians and their scooters.  I have had a motorcycle license since 1964.  First bike was a Honda 50.  Have only been without a bike for two years since then.  Currently have 2 Honda scooters, a Honda ST 1100, and a Yamaha TD 2.  I’m looking to add a RE soon.  I find it easier to do my daily running around on the NH 125 that I rescued from a wood pile than to drag out the ST.  I put about 7500 miles a year on the ST and 3000 on the scoot.  I have yet to come home on the scooter without a grin on my face.   $26.00 for full coverage insurance and about that much for the tag plus all the kids love it.  One of the great joys I have is waving at all of the “Harley Types”.  Most do a double take.  Regulars now wave back.  Stopped to offer one a ride back into town last month (he was broken down) and was told he would be too embarrassed to be seen on a “scooter”.  Go figure.

"... Go figure."  wildmanmoore

Well, Br. Wildman, I cannot figure this out myself and, quite frankly, your closing statement shows you're a very polite gentleman and, of course, a good Samaritan, also!  And, please, don't let a complex driven ingrate, such as that rider, stop you from being who you are, brother!
