For a while, years ago, I lived with a very right-wing Rebuplican.  I never quite understood why we were such good friends.  years later, I realized that whever a controversial topic came up and we were about to kill each other, he would roll a huge joint (? !) and I would turn on the TV.  I think it's often neccessary to decide if it's more important to be right, or be fiends.
I find myself wishing more people and politicians would decide to be Americans rather than to be "right".  There are plenty of other places to throw doody, so in this particular case, i don't mind the judicious use of a ray gun.

I evaporated the Ted Kennedy topic. It was getting too personal and mean. No point in that. . I had no time for him whatsoever, but........even Glen Beck had something decent to say about him. He said that Kennedy stood with his ideals in the Senate come hell or high water and didn't change with the wind like so many others. Even if you disagreed with his politics  he was sincere in them.
McCain said he was one of the few people in Congress who kept his word and whose word meant something. His past aside, that is pretty high praise.
There is a lot to criticize but apparently there are things to admire as well.

Kevin I was wondering what your statement there is a lot to criticize about him means, can you name the points that could cause you to criticize him.It would be interesting to know what your view is on this.  ERC

I grew up in Berkeley Heights, NJ.
Every day on my way to school I walked past the Kopechne home on Mountain Ave.

Call  me crazy, but when somebody kills one of my neighbors, and then skates because he has "influence", and has all the records sealed for 75 years, I tend to take a pretty dim view of him.

Being neither Irish or Catholic I was never a big fan of his,but the man over the years has I'm sure deeply regretted this incident and overall has in my view always tried to help people that are below his station in life being born of wealthy parents. Such as heath care, esp. for vets, education, labor and political oppression around the world.  ERC

Absolutely correct Eamon. The right wont pass on an opportunity to kick a perceived enemy even if he's dead. Sad but shows the stripes.

Please don't lump all people you perceive to be on "the right" together.  My only comment about him that could have been considered "kicking" him, was I did not agree with his politics, policies, or proclivities.  I did not know him personally, and will not judge him as a man.

His politics are quite different than mine, but that is what makes this country great. I admire him politically for at least sticking with what he believes instead of waffling like most other politicians.
I agree that there is not future in this thread. The guy is dead, his family is grieving not much else of value to say.

As far as the right goes all of the Fox pundits have refused to go there so I am not sure who from the right is being lumped into this.

Garbone thats an Oldsmobile DELTA 88 not a Delmont. Delmont is an old buddy of mine who lives in Maine.   ERC

I looked at that Wiki article and your right they call some models Delmont. The only problem is I've got the original service manuals back to the 30s and can't find a Delmont. They've got Deluxe,Dynamic and Delta no Delmont up to 1967. I think Wiki may be wrong.Anybody out there an Oldsmobile collector? ERC   ???

You learn something new everyday. Thanks to the computer the Delmont was released in 67 and made for 2yrs.The manual I have was probably published the year before so didn't have that model, glad I didn't have to work on one using my manual. The big HP ones must be worth some money today.Glad Garbone brought this up now I know everything.    ERC    ???
