I'm bowling along a favorite winding country road at sensible Bullet type speeds.

Behind me is a woman in some kind of grosser 4x4 SUV. Every time I back off my speed for a bend, poor visibility, or adverse road camber she immediately closes right up on my tail pipe. I can almost see this bubble above her head with "Der, what's he slowin' down for?" written in it.

In the UK motorcyclists are routinely picked off and given a hard time by police but there are a great many stupid, rude, dangerous car drivers they would be better spending their time on.

True, but motorcyclists/bikers are more fun.  They feel they are all tough guys pulling over the motorcycle because we have to be up to no good.  Luckily here in Wisconsin a fair share of police ride so they are pretty much death on stupid cagers riding bikes.  But they still have to be caught in the act.  Will.

Man, what a pain. The old part of me wants to say, 'And that's when I roll off the throttle completely' (no, I'm not dumb enough to actually brake..). The new part of me nowadays knows it's a losing proposition. You can't win a conflict with a 4-wheeler. Best to pull off the road and let the ninny go by.

Just my thinkin'

Matt

One thing that often works is to start swerving back and forth (don't crash in the process) and the 4-wheeler will usually back off immediately.  I don't know the psychology behind that, but it really does work for me most of the time.  If that doesn't work, then signal, then hand signal, then pull off so the a** hole can pass.   ;)

After getting knocked off by a cager in the PARKING LOT(!) going to work, I've decided that carrying a large calibre pistol will solve many of the problems that you'd encounter on the road ..... sheesh!! I'm STILL sore .....  >:(

Sometimes you just have to believe a good. stiff beating may help out with the situation.  I said years ago if you got hit by a cage on a bike you should get to subject that person to the same punishment.  Plus they paid for all the damages.  Bet car/bike accidents would go down dramatically.  Will.

Had a friend who rode with a certain motorcycle club (okay gang) who carried a handful of roofing tacks in his pocket.  Never do remember seeing him do any roofing.  Will.

I'm with woodboats. Passive aggression works neither on my motorbikes, not my pedal bikes. It's a losing proposition. Besides, with my luck, I'd ride over my own tacks on the way home (with more dire consequences). Just be thankful you're on you're bike, and not stuck that truck behind you. But who knows, maybe she was trying to get a closer look at the bike.... damn, why I am so optimistic all of a sudden?

Closer look at the bike. Ah, that explains it. She must have glimpsed my home made exhaust baffle tube and was getting up nice and close to admire the workmanship.

Isn't it grand to be appreciated for your engineering capabilities?  I actually had a lady follow me into a parking lot to comment on what was written on a t-shirt.  Had been trying to lose her for the prior 15 minutes in heavy traffic.  Sheesh..Will.

Never take a bike to a car fight.

Now there IS a grain of truth to that ..... It's all good 'til you get sucker punched, tho, like I was. I ended up in a heep ten feet from the bike - which was about 20 feet and a 60 degree angle from the original flight path. I didn't know who the heck I was for about three minutes after that! Good thing I'm not 20 any more - I'd have pulled the cager out of the car through the windshield and we would have had a brief but poignant "Come to Jesus" meeting about paying attention when you are driving a cage ........ sheesh!  >:(

Last true cage meets bike incident I had was 2002.  My then fiancee and I were riding uneventfully down a local back street and a lady from out of state jumped a stop sign.  Would have been fine since she stopped halfway into the intersection.  Had made an emergency correction and would have been fine but she decided when we were almost around her to punch it.  Long story short I brought it down to nothing and went into a low speed wobble..pushed my fianceeof the back and laid the bike over at about 5 mph.

What surprised me was she was 5 months pregnant and totally irresponsible behind the wheel.  Admitted to the officer she didn't have her vehicle under control.  He wrote her a double citation for her brain dead actions.  And added she was also endangering an unborn child.  Basically he had a little wake up and smell the coffee sermom for her.

We walked away unhurt (luckily) but she got a $2k bill for repairs from the local Kawasaki dealer, delivered via my insurance carrier.  Still look waaaay down that crossroad when I come up on it.  Will.
