CMW does have AVL cams. They are different than iron barrel cams.
A screeching sound would be unlikely to come from cams. It might possibly come from the cam spindles, though. Not real likely, but possible. They are immersed in oil, and not likely to screech.
A screech from that area of the engine would be likely to be from the timing side main bearing. That is right behind the cams inside the engine case. The main bearings are splash/drip oiled, and when they are failing they often make a screeching sound.
I hate to have to say it, but my guess would be the main bearing on the timing side.
If you can't find a problem anywhere else, then that's probably what it is.
Investigate any other possible causes soon, because if the bearing is screeching, it won't be too long before it comes apart, and that can cause alot of damage.
