Motorcycle shops charge 2 or 3 times what an auto parts store charges.
Part of the problem fo me, is that I need to stay small enough to work into my lightly customised situation -I took my sideboxes off.

4 dollar is too much?

Ok try going to a small car type shop such as a Suzuki dealer and just put your solenoid on the counter and don't speak.   Just say have you got one of these?

Either $4 is a joke, or the last time you bought one was 30 years ago.
The range i found was from $30 to $60.

How about a farm store?  I've used solid copper ignition wires for a Farmall on my Triumphs ($12.00 for a set of 4 universal length).  Used a push button starter switch from a T030 Massey Ferguson on a Honda chopper I built (think it was about $6.50).  Am even thinking about redoig my electrical system and using a Delco Remy push button starter switch on the Bullet.  About $12.00 delivered ($17.00 local).  Amazing what you can find at TSC/Farm and Fleet/Fleet Farm.  Will.
