How 'bout a "no sex, religion, politics" rule for Campfire talk?  The political rants are annoying...

Never mind about the "sex" part...

Well,  as I am one of the instigators of this lately I just have to say most of the time I do not even read all those threads...   But it is a good outlet to vent stress and articulate opinions,  as long as folks don't take things too heart.

I always click the "Show unread" button when checking in... not unusual to find hald of the "unreads" are the various political posts.

I have/will fight for freedom of speech, but there's tons of venues for that stuff...

Betcha a buck nothing posted here has changed anybodies mind on anything...

Well, as one of the louder and more obnoxious voices on the political threads of the Campfire section, I apologize for any offense I've ever given.

I'm bowing out, too. I reckon I only need to be called a Hitler loving nazi death chamber  oven operative once, to know it's time to leave...

I was surprised to find both RePozer and Garbone on this thread today when I opened it... I was just thinking that the three of us seem to share one thing in common - with diametrically opposed views, we've always been able to stop in the middle of an argument and share a joke :)

It's gotten a lot less funny recently in there...

I like lively conversation with people who are able to listen, as well as debate.
A rant, on the other hand, is a waste of time.   When things turn to verbal blows- I just stop reading.  Unless one has a terminal attraction car wrecks and such, I'm not sure I understand the problem.

Br. Mike (and Stumpy), I fully agree with you.  In fact and until one recent post, I had not started or added to any thread that touched on politics or religion since shortly after the 2008 elections!  I also agree about keeping the sex in play; WOWZAA!!!  ::)

I was trying to stay out of it until this week when it became intriguing. I like the fact that Kevin has allowed a space for frank, unbounded discussion. CMW is a unique company for having such a feature on its website, and I admire that. But on the other hand, I think the overheated discussions sometimes give newcomers or outsiders the wrong impression of the community, and maybe even of the company that's hosting it.

After all, the forum is really about our shared pastime, and I'm not sure it's productive to be hashing out our national problems here. We've just lost (I hope only temporarily) a couple of our most helpful members, which is a negative effect on the community as a whole and really unnecessary.

Will's suggestion to take a poll is a good one. As Mike and Stumpy have observed, nobody's opinions have changed as a result of the political arguments, though I do think some people have come to understand the other side a little better. I'm therefore undecided as to how I would vote on such a poll if it were initiated, but I'm starting to think maybe we should keep our hands off the politics (but on the sex).

Jeff

Boy, for a land of the free ,--you don't like free too much.

Fee to talk about what you want ,--thats what it says and until it does'nt then it is.

Your all big boys,--- are'nt you?

If you don't like it don't look.  Don't tell others what to talk about.

Censor yourself if you want,------ but not me!!

Politics has ruined more than a few web forums. To my knowledge, nobody has ever changed anyone's opinion on a political subject over the internet.

Come to think of it, why have a section of this forum dedicated to anything other than motorcycle related stuff? What's next... a sub-forum for the discussion of lawn care.... pet food...  Paris Hilton's latest porn movie?

Would it be asking too much for those interested in such banter to visit a different forum to get their fix? There's a pretty good one over at "debatepolitics.com".

I understand the idea that we could "just not go look at the Campfire talk if we don't like it. However. some of us will get sucked into it like cheap metal to a magnet. And, no good can come from it. Ever.

Oh don't put yourself down,-- I would not call you cheap metal to a magnet ,--a lttle naive perhaps and a control freek but nothing insulting.

If you were right then we should stop TV ,---video games.

Your not a member of the Taliban are you? shall we hang Tv's in the tree?

The rest of us are quite capable of having a heated discussion without insults. If you are an excitable person and cant restrain yourself then perhaps you should not get involved , but what I have seen here is nothing but gentlemanly conversations.

Try not to get sucked in,--dont click,  wear boxing gloves if you cant stop yourelf.

But what ever you do don't control me for your short falls.
