I found in past posts you found the jumper wire to make the light switch totallyy operatable.. do You mind posting a picture or give color codes?  I can see where it would be handy to have the lights off when starting the bike with electric start this winter.. so as not to put an extra drain on the battery.. since I truly sUx at kick startN ::)

ah Ha...found it  ..to quote Matt

Removed the headlight and found the harness going up to the switch. Removed the jumper that was placed in-line in the harness and plugged the harness back together. Voila!

Many Thanks.. that was so easy ;D

Removing that harness is the easiest mod ever, plug and play. While I like the safety aspect of running with my light on, I hate the idea of having controls on my bars that do nothing.

It is extremely useful being able to start an electric start, without having the lights working - It is my intention to put a light switch of some kind on all my bikes, even the kick start - only one.

Here are some pictures from when I did this modification to my bike.

After Photo:

Pretty simple to do.  I only needed a Phillips head screwdriver and my fingers for this job.  It took about 15 minutes.

Could you explain what it is you did?  You know, what color of wire, etc.  The photos are clear enough I just can't make any sense out of them.

In the green connector in picture one, there is a gray loop of wire, in picture two, that wire is removed.

Leonard, just pull the headlight and you'll see that there is a 2" wire harness connecting wires for no apparent reason. You'll then realize that there are more wires going in then the harness allows. Simply unplug the harness at both ends to remove it, and plug the 2 remaining sides together. No splicing needed, plug and play. Your headlight switch will now work. It's harder to explain than it is to do.

Even if you don't quite understand, just unscrew your headlight and look at the wires, you'll see what we mean.

Instructions to go with photos.

1)  Remove headlight from bike.

2)  Locate wire harness I am pointing at in before photo.

3)  unplug said harness which has white connectors from red and green connectors.

4)  Plug red and green connectors together without the small jumper left in my hand as show in after photo.

5)  Replace headlight and you now have a functional headlight switch and headlights you can turn on and off.

OK, I think I'm starting to see the light.  It should be clear once I pull the headlight.

That was easy plan on doing it on my wifes '06 Electra soon.  Sure reduces the load on the electrical system, and allows stealth mode.  Tanks a bunch. ;D

I took my jumper out the 1st week I got my RE.
Didn't have to remove the head light , just turn the forks to the left and their the jumper was ,by the serial #.
I run with my lights on , hi beam during the day, but have the lights off till engine is running.
Kind of fun having a set of ally lights that work too.
