Went by the shop I do some part time wrenching in today to help uncrate a new bike.
Walked out the owner of a new G5 Standard.
Now I gotta think of some way to get this one by Swmbo.
The HD cost me a full set of living room furniture.

I get it now.  Just posted a question about the G5 on the Classic page.  Just couldn't resist huh?

Well, this is very interesting!
Congratulations!

Now we want the real "skinny' on all the comparisons regarding the G5 vs your Iron Bullets!

You're an Enfield-aholic that we can all aspire to!

Well, I haven't brought it home yet but you'll hear plenty.
I'm not a real big fan of the Electra series and I wish they made it on the old classic chassis but I was going for the motor.
I guess that some of the enthusiasm of the engineers that helped design the motor rubbed off on me.
This is the last year for the AVL, Carbs and drum brakes so the UCE is going to be the only Enfield for us "Enfield-aholic's" down the road so I guess I'll be one of the guineas. If it's half as good as my 99 has been to me I'll be a happy man.

I know there are going to be a few changes that it's going to need.
Bigger countershaft sprocket. (G5 has a 17 and the C5 has a 18)
Harder seat.
Pre-6/99 handlebars.
That muffler sure is big!
Something to keep saddlebags off the tire.

The C5's are not supposed to be here until late spring/early summer.

Ain't gonna be no new kitchen or bedroom makeover. These are tough economics times and cash saved should be spent on more important things like basic transportation. LOL

Sorry to say, but I think you just committed sacrilege.  Part of the appeal of the Enfield is the sound given off by its engine:  it idles slowly enough to count the strokes, and even in fifth gear, it sounds pretty laid back.  The KLR 650, while a decent enough all-purpose bike, can't hold a candle to the aesthetic appeal of a Bullet. Its stroke is too short, its report too high-pitched.

Remember, these bikes are works of art as much as they are vehicles.  A Kawi engine would ruin a good portion of the Bullet's artistic flair.

EDIT:  In spite of this, I wouldn't mind seeing a big-bore mod like the one available on the old Iron models.  Yes, I am a dirty hypocrite.

There's something that doesn't make sense... let's go and poke it with a stick.

Bullet Bill: Well, you are absolutely RIGHT. I must admit I always believed the appearance of the cast iron cylender RE engine to literally be a beautiful piece of art. Like some famous painting that should be in a famous art gallery to be appreciated  by the entire world. I confess to simply staring at my engine for long periods of time. I have owned eleven bikes in my life and every one was  a bike  that you could easily see the engine. Even the new UCE engine is art to me.

Congrats. I wish my wife was as bribable as yours. Then I would still have my Bullet to go with the FJ.
