primer grey

That got me thinking - I'd love to see a Bullet done up in grey Hammerite (with the exception of black framework).

Or perhaps galvanized? Saw an ad for a Vespa which had been prepped to be galvanized but was now just in boxes. Kinda had been tempted but now I am more interested in the galvanization. I am not really suggesting it but am curious to see the looks of a bike, or car, which had been galvanized.

I paint cars for a living, mostly British sports cars and mostly MGs.One of the best things about doing it for someone else is THEY get to do the color choice.I have often decided by what I have on hand.It is always a hard choice, but sometimes when you think about it,you had something in mind at the very start or before the start,a vision of what you were gonna do.

Hi, I cannot resist; I shall dedicate my first message to this most important question:
The answer is obvious: a proper Old English (or of English descent, or of old English design) motorcycle can only be black. If made after the war, it can be black and chrome. If one has to have some garish details, it can have a few gold lines or letters. No other colour scheme is acceptable.
If made for the military, it can be green; no matter how old and discoloured, the paint must be left as is.
Colours are modern and must be avoided at all costs!
Look at the Brough Superior or the Vincent; look at some modern bikes:  http://www.overlandtoindia.co.uk/index.htm ,   http://www.enfield.hk/

PS ok, my own bullet is mostly red (ok, I am Italian) ;)

I'll not use any of the metallics...too modern....just solid colors. The  black is 'proper',as Perfecto said, but, for me ,with the chassis already black,I want
a contrasting color or colors....(my Commando was stunning, tho.)
I'm  leaning heavily towards white as the primary color.it's not the usual
choice of most manufacturer(other than early BMW's),and I immediately
liked my RE in white  when I first saw it.
Choosing the secondary color now,and how to use it on the casquette to
compliment the tank are  the unanswered questions.....

Sam, your Commando was stunningly beautiful.  You mentioned that you wanted to stay away from an all black bike and that you were looking for contrasting colors.  With this in mind, I offer you the following suggestion:

Black:   Casquette, fenders and, of course, frame
Red:    Tank and tool boxes (Mazda makes a stunning red.)

In closing, this color combination, if it is what would satisfy you, would give your RE a vintage look.

Keep the shiny side up!
