A member of a UK forum has noted that he was out on his 2007 bike when he applied the rear brake - and nothing happened.  He found that the two pieces of rivetted metal which form the brake operating arm on the rear drum had opened up, allowing the brake rod to fall out. He called on fellow-riders to check their bikes and I'm sure he would want the news passing on.  I think this is something we should check now, and add to our "regular visual inspection" list.
