I also have a Interceptor, only a 1967, of which only 759 were made. It runs great and I am thinking of selling it. It has new mufflers, points, plugs, battery and new plug wires. The seat will be recovered before sale. Very nice bike if re -chromed. The tank is the worst part of the chrome. Thinking of selling for $6000 firm as is. If re-chromed I will sell for more. I paid $7500 3 years ago.  A picture of the bike is in the gallery on page 22 under "1967 Interceptor MK1A" , along with all the ratings of the bike.   Hutch

Is that fare price?Didn't realize old interceptors would comand that kind of price. The bike does look good but a little ruff to me.

That's probably a little high given the apparent condition. But the series II is very hard to come by, so that probably boosts the value, condition being equal, over a series I or Ia like Hutch's.

Series II motors were the last produced Interceptors without  a separate oil tank. They were produced in greater number and for a longer period of time than the series 1A motors. That is why the series 1A is so rare with only 759 units being produced. The 1A's had the longer more proven RE stlye of oiling than the series II. It is the same oiling system used on the iron barrel Bullet and AVL motors. Cycle World road tests of the period preferred the the 1A over the series II for performance and fit and finish because the series II was a knew motor  hastily manufactured to keep the companies big twins afloat. It didn't work, unfortunately. The series II is desireable becuase it was the last big twin produced by RE, but the 1A's are desireable for the rareity, performance and reliability. Series 1A's are much harder to find, and the most desireable according to most collectors.  Baxters in Indianna has a series 1A that they are asking $10,000 for. Series II bikes go for slightly less.   Hutch

There you go.

I would have thought the II was the rarer bike.

Thanks for the education.

Either way , they are not making any more of them, so he can ask what he likes.
