Who knew there was a slow-motion tariff war going on between the U.S. and India?  Accordion to a New York Times article published in my newspaper today India is raising tariffs on 28 categories of U.S. imports in response to the U.S. increasing tariffs on imported aluminum and steel. The new increased tariffs will be on $1.4 billion of goods and went into effect on Sunday. They cover almonds, walnuts, apples and finished metal items, among other products. India is one of the largest markets in the world for almonds from California and the increased tariff on almonds will go up by 20%, raising the wholesale price of almonds to about 4.5 cents a pound.  :o

Not a lot, considering that I typically pay $5 a pound for almonds when they are on sale and see them priced between $8 and $10 a pound when not on sale. And since almonds are grown only about 200 miles away, shipping costs can't make up too much of that price.  Someone is getting screwed here - as usual.   :(

With Trump in control, India better watch what they do with increasing tariffs on the US.

As you may have read on this forum, there is no import tariff on Indian goods like the motorcycles it exports to us.  There isn't much if any tariff on anything India exports to us except this new steel and aluminum one.

If Trump decides to place the kind of import taxes on India that India places on us it will have a major impact on their whole economy.  (They currently charge up to 100% on many of the things we try to sell to them.)
