Hopped on the scooter, fired it up and within 1/2 mile, it started running very shi??y, trying to die, missing. Got it home, took the spark plug out and it was black, so I cleaned it, unhooked the battery to reset the ecu, put it all back together, and it runs fine. What's Up???? My bike is a 2018 C5 with 100 miles on it. The sidestand switch was unplugged the day after I bought it. I will be getting a NGK plug as I have read the original Bosch plug isn't the greatest.

NGK's are a very good plug but sometimes a bit hard to find--I have had very good luck with Autolite 63's or 64's which are cheaper and available most everywhere.

Gizzo is probably right. Take the battery out again and look at the small negative lead that has a too large and cheap copper terminal sticking out back. Mine broke very early on, thankfully only 1/4 mile from my house in my buddy's driveway, who had a trailer. My driveway is a ski slope...up. Other than that, I have no idea what it could.

The other thing that "might" do something like that is ethanol fuel that has sat in the tank for a few months if the bike was in storage.

The dealer had to uncrate it when I bought it, so I am not sure how much fuel they are shipped with. It was full when I bought it, but I have added about a gallon of ethanol free gas to it since I took delivery. Ethanol free is all I want to run it on.
I will go back and check the ground from the battery.

Even if the ground looks fine, the copper is known to shear inside the insulation and give an intermittent ground problem.  The best thing is to replace it with a typically good terminal and maybe some shrink tubing to keep it from vibrating at the end of wire and breaking the copper again.  This could be the #1 problem with Royal Enfields  :o.  Luckily it's easy to fix... could be worse!

And it is astounding to me that RE doesn't do something about it.....such an easy fix.

           9fingers: They're still using the same shitty crappy, cruddy terminal that I removed and replaced on my 2008 AVL Classic the first year I had it ??? ???

No, obviously not. But it is such a simple, cheap thing to fix. I mean, a decent connector costs how much? And they ALL fail don't they, in the first 1,000 miles or so?

Not all. My 2010 G5 with 21,000miles still has the original in place. The factory battery was still good after 6 years too. Only changed it because I didn't want to push my luck.
As for the rest of the bike, don't get me started. It's good now, but early on it was a bit of a pig.

Put a new NGK plug in the bike yesterday and it runs so much better. With my learning this bike I just fouled out the plug and it got to the point it said, I have had enough!! I did check the neg. wire coming off the battery and it was fine, well for now anyway. If it starts acting stupid in the future, I know now what to start looking at first. Thanks again for the support, I do like this bike.

I also put in a new NGK plug in my 2012 yesterday and it does seem to run better and the idle went up about 300 RPM.
The original plug was black with only 2800 total miles on the bike.
