Did look at the Lomax, even nicer 2CV based Pembleton, but opted for JZR with Guzzi 1060cc V twin, yes it goes ???? Ironic post re 2CV as on hols in Paris before heading back to Perth Australia - car being painted as we speak -cream, marroon & tan leather to match my 20140C5- will post pics in a few weeks. Back to the AVL thinking of Cafe or Bob ????

An "oil lamp" like an Iron Barrel or AVL might be just the thing for the Dark Side. Have you got a particular one in mind already? AVLs are lovely-looking. My only reservation might be that their limited production run might add a level of difficulty to the sourcing of parts. I also recall having read something about their thinner push rods or con rods--some kind of rods--sometimes causing havoc. A good rummaging through the Forum Archives might be advised. That said, I'd give one a good home in a heartbeat should it present itself at a good price.
So badass my Enfield's actually illegal  in India. Yet it squeaks by here in Virginia.

AVL 500 engine weak spots:

1. Sprag clutch prone to fail, probably the best-known thing to go wrong;

2. Big end failures, particularly on early models shipped to the UK. mostly down to the hardening failing on the crankpins. Can spray the inside of the engine with highly abrasive metal particles when it happens;

3. This is what Bilgemaster was probably thinking of, the feet can snap off the tappets, which for some reason were designed to have thinner spindles than the iron barrel engine tappets.

Still went ahead and bought another one last week, as a learner bike for my wife.

It seems OK, it also looked a lot better once I'd removed the strange and ugly home-made speedo and rev-counter assembly (sat on the ground in front of it!) that the previous-previous owner had fitted.  Short term plans for this one include a right-foot gear shift conversion as well as a couple of magnets in the drain plugs, maybe fitting the Dell'Orto PHF32 from my previous Electra in place of the Amal. I have a spare rebuilt crankshaft in case the worst happens.
